Police Department celebrates Black History Month

At its core, The North Charleston Police Department’s Cops Athletic Program’s promotes broader participation in athletics and academics, while encouraging leadership development through activities led and coached by North Charleston Police Departments.

The Police Department sponsors a special Black History Month awards program, one of CAP’s most exciting events. This year’s program will be held on February 23 at 6:00pm at Royal Missionary Baptist Church. The lively recognition ceremony is intertwined with dynamic praise dancing, monologues, and performance arts throughout the event.

Student Essay Contest

Winners are selected among essays submitted to the North Charleston Police Department School Resource Officers working with students within the city’s elementary and middle schools.

Spotlight Officer

Members of the North Charleston Police Department who have excelled in their assigned areas.

Shining Star

Citizens and city employees who have exhibited outstanding work in the community.

Trailblazer

Individuals born in North Charleston who have achieved success in their career and risen to prominence in their profession

Lifetime Achievement

A well-known and respected senior citizen, from North Charleston, who has contributed significantly towards the betterment of the community

About CAP

The North Charleston Police Department Cops Athletic Program provides an opportunity for school-aged children to interact with police officers in a non-traditional way, building and bolstering positive relationships.  CAP programs promote broader participation in athletics and academics, while encouraging leadership development through activities led and coached by North Charleston Police Departments. CAP targets youth unable to secure transportation and funds for participation in traditional athletic programs.  A broad cross-section of CAP activities include Powder Puff football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, martial arts, spelling bees, lacrosse, step team, Black History Month, soccer, golf, among others. CAP aims to inspire, educate and empower the young minds within our community with positive, lifelong educational experiences.
