Administrative Services

The Administrative Services Division, under the direction of Deputy Chief Karen Cordray, consists of the Information Services Bureau which oversees the Records Unit, Duty Officer Unit, Holding Facility, TAC, Transport, Financial Services Unit, Police Technology Unit, Cops Athletic Program (CAP), Neighborhood Resource Officer’s Unit (NRO) and Crime Prevention.

The Support Services Bureau is supervised by the Bureau Commander with the rank of Captain and supervised by two Lieutenants.  These sections and unit’s responsibilities are described as follows:

The Records Unit is responsible for the clerical management of daily reports and records.

The Duty Officer Unit is  responsible for handling walk-in or telephone reports from citizens in an effort to assist officers of the department by providing them increased time for proactive police measures. The unit is also responsible for the security of North Charleston City Hall after business hours as well as warrant retrieval and wrecker service administrative procedures.

The Holding Facility Unit is responsible for the transport, security, and initial administrative photographing and fingerprinting of prisoners prior to being released or lodged at the Charleston or Dorchester County Detention Center. This unit is also responsible for the coordination and management of the community service sentencing program.

The Financial Services Unit is responsible for the accommodation of the needs of the Police Department concerning vehicles and supplies.  The unit is responsible for the documentation and reporting of budget activities for the department.  This unit is also responsible for the management and distribution of uniforms and non-technological personal equipment.

The Police Technology Unit is responsible for researching and coordinating implementation of new technologies that would enhance the department’s ability to carry out its mission.

The North Charleston Police Department Cops Athletic Program provides an opportunity for school age children to build positive relationships with police.  C.A.P offers youth the opportunity to interact with police officers in a positive setting outside their traditional roles as police officers.  The program serves through athletics, academics, and leadership development. The Cops Athletic Program has organized Powder Puff football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, martial arts, spelling bees, lacrosse, step team, Black History Month, soccer, golf, and other programs.
