Over the next few weeks and months, many teens will be looking for summer jobs, and area pools will be hiring lifeguards.
The North Charleston Recreation Department is offering American Red Cross Lifeguard Training classes in April and May.
The classes, for ages 15 and up, will be held at Danny Jones Pool, 1455 Monitor St., North Charleston.
Registration is $100, payable by check or money order, and must be done in person at Armory Park, which is across the street from the Danny Jones Pool.
The first session is April 8-20 and the second session is May 6-18. For each session, classes will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
All participants must pass a prerequisite swimming test to be eligible to take the course. The test is given the first day of class and includes a 300-yard swim, retrieving a brick from the bottom of the pool and treading water.
