“Shape Up North Charleston” Workout Series

O2 Fitness Clubs is partnering with the City of North Charleston along with healthy food and produce vendors to offer free, public exercise classes this May. Collectively known as , the classes will take place from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on the first four Mondays and Tuesdays of May in Park Circle.

Pre-registration for the program is not required – participants can simply walk up, sign up and shape up. Parking is available at numerous lots, or along the street. Classes will be presented in front of the Felix C. Jones Community Center, 4800 Park Circle.

“Community involvement and general wellness are an important part of our mission at O2 Fitness,” said Michael D. Olander, Jr., O2 Fitness Clubs CEO. “We are extremely excited to be making this outreach in North Charleston and look forward to growing these types of efforts in the region. We certainly encourage everyone to come out and also invite their friends and family.”

All classes will be led by certified O2 Fitness trainers. The Shape Up North Charleston schedule is as follows:

INSANITY

High-intensity, max-interval workout that blasts every muscle.

“It is encouraging when companies get directly involved with the community, especially when it is an effort to get our residents outside, more active and fit,” said Ed Barfield, North Charleston Director of Parks and Recreation. “We are happy to partner with O2 for a month of diverse, fun fitness classes.”

Various local food trucks, as well as produce and healthy food vendors will also be onsite during classes.

Raleigh, N.C.-based O2 Fitness has hosted its Shape Up series for the past several years in the North Carolina capital, where it has become a popular and engaging event. The company acquired East Shore Athletic Clubs locally nearly two years ago and is in the midst of a $2 million overhaul of its 12 Charleston-area gyms. Those facilities are located in Mount Pleasant (4), West Ashley (2), North Charleston, Summerville, Daniel Island, Moncks Corner, Goose Creek and Hanahan.
