Please join NCPD in congratulating Ptl. Deontay Thompson, our Employee of the Month for April 2023. On April 25, Officer Thompson was patrolling in the area of the Circle A convenience store on Spruill Ave. when he saw someone run out of the store carrying two bags. Believing the suspect had stolen items from the store, Ptl. Thompson chased him and caught him. The bags contained a large amount of cash and e-cigs. Officer Chris T. Cooper responded to the store and learned the suspect had robbed the store at gun point. Sgt. Danielle Sherwood found the gun behind the store and confirmed it had been stolen from our city. The juvenile suspect was charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, unlawful carry of a handgun, possession of stolen goods and possession of a firearm by a person under 18. He was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Sgt. Sherwood presented Officer Thompson with his award. Great job!
