The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department is pleased to announce that a group exhibition of works by Women. Artists. Mentors. (W.A.M.) will be on display at the North Charleston City Gallery from October 4-31, 2018. A free reception will be held at the gallery on Thursday, October 4, from 5:00-7:00pm. Some of the exhibiting artists will be present and refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend.

Women. Artists. Mentors. (W.A.M.) is a group of five women artists that hold monthly online meetings to support one another’s professional and artistic goals. They come from several Southeastern states including South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and Virginia. One of their members is currently stationed with her family at a military base in Fussa, Japan. These five members have been producing group shows for the past three years, and are excited to present 5 Lifetimes of Discovery, new works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor.

5 Lifetimes of Discovery celebrates the artists’ individual styles and interests. Helen K Beacham (Summerville, SC) uses watercolors to create vibrant yet serene landscapes which are either painted en plein aire or in her studio. Maria Bennett Hock (Cary, NC) uses figures and portraits to create stories in oil. A copyist at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, she employs insights gained from studying masterpieces to create new work. As a designer for Walt Disney Imagineering, Kim Minichiello (Windemere, Florida) worked in Paris, Tokyo, California, and Florida designing restaurants and attractions for Disney theme parks. Her design work and travel have fed her passion for painting. Her works in oil and watercolor are in numerous private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Debra Keirce (Ashburn, VA) focuses on miniature paintings in oil or acrylic. Carrie Waller (Fusso, Japan) is a watercolor artist whose work has been widely published including in Watercolor Artist Magazine. Recognized for her realistic and detailed style, Waller is particularly interested in the subject of glass in various forms. This group of women artists not only holds regular online meetings to support each other’s artistic endeavors, but they have traveled together to Venice, Montreal, Savannah, and Charleston, creating shared experiences.
