NCPD presents basketballs to mother of victim of gun violence

On Saturday members of NCPD’s Uniform Patrol and Cops Athletic Program (CAPS) helped Esther Smith and Pastor Lance remember her son Jonathan Smith. Sadly, Jonathan was a victim of gun violence in December 2021. Several people came together to help Ms. Smith collect over 50 basketballs to be given to children in communities near the Danny Jones Recreation complex.
Lt. Cerone presented a special black basketball that was decorated with ‘Stop the Violence’ messaging and signed by Chief Burgess. The CAPS program presented Ms. Smith a commemorative ball that was signed by the entire team and support staff. A total of eight autographed basketballs were presented by NCPD at the ceremony.
Thank you to Lt. Cerone, Sgt. Zimmer, Cpl. Denicola and Pfc. Demalo for representing our agency at the event! #PathForward
