NCPD officer gets award for catching suspect wanted for break ins

Please join NCPD in congratulating Cpl. Craig Akins who’s been awarded a “Certificate of Recognition” for January 2023. On January 6, officers located a suspect fitting the description of a man who was checking car door handles in Oak Terrace Preserve. The suspect fled into Charleston Farms. Cpl. Akins, who was conducting K-9 training on Remount Rd., heard the foot pursuit and left the area to assist with K-9 Vik. Cpl. Akins got ahead of the suspect on Marietta St. and sent out K-9 warnings on his PA system. The suspect surrendered to Cpl. Akins. NCPD detectives plan to charge the suspect with multiple break ins in North Charleston. The suspect also has outstanding warrants with another local agency and with Duval County, Florida. Great work Cpl. Akins!
