This week our K-9 units completed their annual certifications through the International Police Work Dog Association. The weeklong national conference was held here in Charleston by the Charleston County Aviation Authority.
The conference hosted K-9 teams from all over the Country with an abundance of Master Trainers in attendance. All North Charleston Police K-9 teams certified in the following disciplines: Criminal Apprehension, Drug Detection, Building Searches, Area Searches, Tracking, Article Searches, and Obedience.
The teams also participated in high-risk deployments, vehicle extractions, and multiple other scenarios that challenged both the K-9 and their handlers.
The conference closed with a banquet dinner on the USS Yorktown where Pfc. Hattie Perry was awarded “Top Dog” for her and K-9 Emir’s achievements as a team.
