NCPD celebrates Black History Month, recognizing first African American female officer

NCPD is celebrating Black History Month. In the late 1970’s Verdell Young was hired by the North Charleston Police Department, working in dispatch and records before becoming our agency’s first African American female officer in 1979. Officer Young served three years in Metro Vice Narcotics before leaving to work as an investigator at the Public Defenders Office.
