Laws in place for ATV, dirt bike riders

Dirt bikes and ATVs are illegal to ride on the roads in South Carolina because they are designed for off-road use. It is required to have a Headlight, Reflectors, Taillight, Review Mirror, and a Horn to operate on the roadway in South Carolina. If a dirt bike is modified to have those equipped, it must be titled, registered, and have insurance that complies with SC laws. Also, a dirt bike rider will need a motorcycle endorsement to be street-legal. At a minimum, the fines could total $2,067.50 plus the cost of the Dirt bike or ATV being towed. Not only can you be stopped by police while riding an ATV or Dirt bike on the roadway, but you can also be arrested.
