To become Employee of the Month in the North Charleston Fire Department, one must be nominated by a superior for exemplary work, selfless actions that directly benefit a resident’s life or the safekeeping of a business, or undertaking additional self-motivated activities to aid in the improvement of the fire department.
The following is Captain David Reindollar’s nomination submission for Engineer Timothy Hiott:
Engineer Hiott regularly demonstrates our department’s values by assisting people in need, providing safety education and caring for the emotional well-being of his fellow firefighters.
On numerous occasions, Engineer Hiott has taken it upon himself to follow up after emergency incidents to provide assistance to residents after seeing that they were in need. This includes providing them with meals, retrieving their mail, and visiting them to make sure they are comfortable and taken care of in their time of need. During his off-duty time, he visits and offers food from his church pantry to personally feed people in need.
Engineer Hiott goes above and beyond during community education events. He treats everyone he meets as if they were his family members and works hard to ensure their safety. This includes teaching families about the proper installation of car seats as well as fire safety.
Engineer Hiott has also recently become a peer counselor for the department. He has already helped several people within the surrounding departments and he is assisting with the Low Country Firefighter Support Team and South Carolina Firefighters Association F.A.S.T. Team. This work demonstrates his care and concern for the emotional well-being of his fellow Firefighters.
Overall, Engineer Hiott constantly shows care and concern for the needs of others. He goes out of way to help people whenever he sees a need and is willing to do anything he can to help them. This behavior exemplifies the values or our department.
