Eric Muench, Captain in the North Charleston Fire Department was honored as Employee of the Month within the department for the month of September for his support of an incident at a business on Palmetto Commerce Parkway.
Here’s what Senior Fire Investigator William Ratliff wrote about Capt. Muench:
I commend Capt. Eric Muench for his support with the investigation on Palmetto Commerce Parkway on Friday, September 5, 2014. Even after working a 24 hour shift, Capt. Muench came to the scene with the investigation van ready to work.
While on scene Capt. Muench directed fire suppression crews in extinguishing hot spots, while ensuring that potential evidence was preserved. With the circumstances surrounding this incident, Capt. Muench was able to help secure one of the scenes while waiting for the North Charleston Crime Scene Unit to arrive. Once the Crime Scene Techs arrived he assisted in processing and documenting the scene.
After agents from ATF and SLED arrived, Capt. Muench coordinated with the chief officers on duty to bring additional personnel and equipment back out to the scene and personally directed those crews in their assigned tasks.
When the scene was finally processed, only then did Capt. Muench agree to leave the scene, after 12 hours.
Capt. Muench’s actions are in keeping with the values of the North Charleston Fire Department.
