Election

The City of North Charleston will hold a General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 for the office of Mayor and ten (10) City Council seats for Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. This is a nonpartisan, municipal election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot. Election results will be determined by the plurality method (simple majority). The term of office will begin in January 2024 and expire January 2028.

The first day to file as a candidate is Monday, August 7, 2023 at 12:00pm noon; the last day to file is Monday, August 21, 2023 at 12:00pm noon.  The candidate’s filing fee for City Council is $150.00 and a candidate’s filing fee for Mayor is $1,000.00.  Filing and payment takes place at Charleston County Board of Elections and Voters Registration Building, 4637 Headquarters Road, North Charleston, SC.

Statement of Intent of Candidacy

Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration administers all municipal elections within the County. From this site, there are additional links to the State’s Ethic’s Commission, regarding requirements about the Statement of Economic Interests Form.  City’s elections are non-partisan. There is no requirement to file a petition for office.  This information will assist candidates separate one set of requirements from another.
