All-American football athlete John Simpson becomes Mayor for the Day

Fort Dorchester High School graduate and All-American football star John Simpson joined Mayor Keith Summey on Thursday, April 7 to become Mayor for the Day of the City of North Charleston.

Throughout the day, John joined the mayor in various meetings, attended a Police Department promotion and recognition ceremony, and visited with city departments and staff.

To cap the day, Mayor Summey proclaimed the April 7 as “John Quashon Simpson Day” in the City of North Charleston and presented John with his very own Key to the City to further commemorate the day.

During John’s senior football year at Fort Dorchester High School, he recorded 52 knock down blocks and lead the Patriots to an undefeated 15-0 season.  With extraordinary talent, he was a 2015 Max Preps All-American, a 4-star recruit on Rivals.com, Scout.com, and 247sports.com.

Continuing his education and football career, John signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Clemson University in 2016.

“I believe John’s story of hard work and determination is an inspiration for all high school athletes,” said Mayor Summey. “On behalf of the City of North Charleston, I wish John all the best in his future athletic and academic career.”
