Citizens’ Advisory Commission on Community – Police Relations

The Citizens’ Advisory Commission has been established by the North Charleston City Council to improve the relationship between the North Charleston Police Department and the community. The Commission is a community group vested by City Council to advise and make recommendations to the NCPD. It is intended to promote transparency with residents and the NCPD on matters concerning but not limited to, public safety, procedural justice, use of force, and biased policing.

Meetings occur on the 4th Tuesday of each month at North Charleston City Hall in the Buist Conference Room on the 3rd Floor.

Public Speaking

To address a matter in committee, an individual must place his or her name and the item to be addressed on a list to be maintained by the commission secretary at least fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled beginning time of such meeting.

Third-party notifications do not warrant a right to address the committee.

The records identifying those persons requesting permission to address shall be available for public inspection.

Each speaker is allowed (3) minutes for his or her personal presentation.

The total time allowed [under Section 2-41(a)] at any meeting shall be limited to thirty (30) minutes and speakers shall be recognized in the order in which they signed the list as to council committee meetings.
