Yesterday afternoon, officers from NCPD’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit arrested a suspected porch package thief after a brief pursuit. Officers arrested 56-year old Maurice Jerome Simmons after he crashed his car into another vehicle, causing his car to overturn at the intersection of Spruill and Carlton Avenues. Investigators say Simmons stole packages on porches from at least four homes on East Dolphin Avenue. Officers found the packages in the trunk of Simmons’ car. All of them have been returned to the owners. Simmons is charged with four counts of larceny, failure to stop for blue lights, and driving under suspension.
