C.A.P. Black History Month Program

The Black History month observance celebration was held on the last Thursday of February.  The program consisted of monologues, musical tributes, praise dancers, African drummers, and essay winners.

Step Team Competition


CAP Step Team finished its first season on Good Friday, April 14 in Columbia, SC.  The team competed in the Stop the Violence Step Competition.  The Northwood’s Park Little Angels brought home the 1st place trophy and a $200 cash prize.  Felix Pinckney brought home a 2nd place trophy.  Way to go CAP Step Team.

Lacrosse


Lacrosse was introduced into the CAP programs this year and proved to be very successful.  The season ended with a Round Robin Play Day held at Austin Avenue Park on April 20th.  The program is for Elementary School boys and girls age 10 and 11. 

Karate

The CAP Karate is a program for Elementary age children in 4th and 5th grade.  Goodwin Elementary School hosted the program for the first time this season.  On May 25, 2017 twenty-two children received their camouflage belts and broke a board.  Karate season runs in the spring and fall and we will be adding additional Elementary Schools to the program.

T-Ball

CAP T-Ball returned this year for its second season.  This program is for 4 and 5-year old’s.  The games are held on the fields at Wescott and Pepperhill. 

Spelling Bee

CAP Spelling Bee takes place during the summer and is held at 19 North Charleston Summer Camp locations.  All students that attend summer camp are invited to compete.  The final competition is held at City Hall in the Council Chambers on Wednesday July 26th at 6:30 pm.

Basketball


CAP Basketball begins this year on June 13th.  All games will take place in the North Charleston High School gym.  Middle school boys age 12-15 play every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 5:30pm, 6:30pm and 7:30pm.  The final championship will take place July 20th, 25th and 27th. 

Powder Puff Football

CAP Powder Puff football will kick off its fourth season in September.  Schools in the program are North Charleston High School, Garrett Academy, Stall High School and Military Magnet.  Military Magnet won the first season.  Ft. Dorchester and Hanahan High Schools entered the 2nd season.  Ft. Dorchester has dominated the league since joining.  New to the league this year are Ashley Ridge and Summerville High school.  The first games are set to kick off on September 5th.
