Community Afterschool Programs
The City of North Charleston’s Veteran’s Day event will be held November 11th at 10:30am at Park Circle. The Recreation Department’s Afterschool Programs will host their annual Essay Contest and Medal of Honor Contest. Each Afterschool Program site will submit a Medal of Honor that represents the theme “Tribute to Veterans.” Students are welcome to submit essays that depict the theme “Veterans are important because…” The essay winners will be invited to read their essay at the Veterans Day event. The winning medal will be displayed at the event.

Winter basketball registration will be extended through November 9th. Registration can be done online at www.northcharleston.org until November 4th or at one of our recreation centers.
Football and Cheerleading
We will have three team competing in all-stars this year. The 10U and 12U will open play on November 19th at Park West in Mount Pleasant. The 8U will advance to Lower State tournament.
We have three teams competing this year. The U10 and U12 will begin play on November 14th at West Ashley Park. We will be hosting the U15 tournament starting November 14th at River Oaks Complex. The U8 teams will begin our in-house post-season tournament on November 2nd at River Oaks.
Middle School Sports
The four North Charleston teams have faired well in the first two weeks of the Lowcountry Volley ball League. Northwoods Middle and Deer Park Middle finished the regular season undefeated with records of 6-0 and 6-0 respectively. Zucker Middle is finished 4-2 in the standing, while Morningside sits at 2-4 in their division. Zucker Middle advanced to the championship game in post season play but lost to Orange Grove Middle School.
Felix Pinckney Pool
Renovations started in late October and will continue into November. This seasonal pool will be renovated into a zero entry facility with a fun water structure, and will reach four feet at its deepest. The pump house and restrooms are also being renovated.
North Charleston Water Polo is gearing up as the team prepares to move to the new Aquatic Center. Check out their Facebook page at South Carolina Water Polo Association for details on practice times, etc.
Yearly Pool Pass
All current pool passes for open/lap swim expire on 12/31/2018. You can pick up a new yearly (individual/family) pool pass during the week at the Armory across the street from the Danny Jones pool.
Youth Swim Team
About 70 Mocs swimmers will be traveling to Greenville in mid-November to participate in the Dash ‘n Splash.
Our popular year round water aerobics class continues on M/T/Th at 9:30 am for the morning session and 6:15 pm for the evening session. The cost is $20 per month. If you have any questions feel free to stop by a class at Danny Jones and talk to our instructor Catherine Dixon.
Swimmers are will take to the road in November to compete at Georgia Tech in Atlanta and in Sarasota, Fla. www.palmettomasters.org

The North Charleston Recreation Department has a very active Adult Tennis Program. Our team tennis program offers a variety of levels of competition and is open to men and women. Matches are played against teams across the Greater Charleston area.
The North Charleston Recreation Department offers Tennis Lessons and Clinics at the Collins Park Tennis Center on the Collins Park Complex (4115 Fellowship Road off Dorchester Road). Fees vary depending on type of lesson or clinic (group or private), Lesson Packages are available. Lessons are available for Adults and Children. Fly Dog Fitness
The North Charleston Recreation Department and “Fly Dog Fitness” have joined together to offer Adult Fitness programs in collaborative effort to make “North Charleston More Physically Fit”! Together we are offering the most unique, creative and exciting workouts in the area. Whether you consider yourself to be in good shape or can’t remember the last time you did more physical activity required at work, we can cater to your fitness level.
We are offering you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself, raise your self-esteem, and increase your social value and influence…all while getting an invigorating workout.
Classes take place for the majority on the outside; utilizing some of North Charleston’s most beautiful green spaces at Park Circle, Danny Jones Complex and Riverfront Park. Morning classes meet on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 5:30am – 6:30am; Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6am – 7am. Evening class meets Tuesdays from 6pm – 7pm. All levels are welcome! Pitch, Hit and Run
This program allows young athletes to showcase their individual skills in pitching, hitting and running. Local competition is tentatively schedule during April. All around winners will advance to a sectional competition. Participants must play in local league. Ages 7-8 years; Ages 9-10 years; Ages 11-12 years; Ages 13-14 years.
