NCPD officers seized three guns and drugs and made three arrests after a pursuit on Friday night. Just before 7 p.m., Officer McClellan approached a suspicious vehicle for trespassing at a closed church and detected the smell of marijuana at the intersection of Cosgrove Ave. and Lenape St.
When Officer McClellan contacted the people inside the car, the driver fled, leading to a pursuit. The pursuit ended when the driver stopped the vehicle at Meeting Street Road and Hackemann Ave.
The front-seat passenger fled with an AR-style pistol but was apprehended shortly after. The driver and rear-seat passenger were also taken into custody by assisting officers. A probable cause search of the car revealed two more firearms and approximately 15 grams of Fentanyl.
Three people were charged: – Ronnie Efrem Smiley III, 22 years old, charged with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Siren, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and Firearm/Possession of Firearm or Ammunition. – Raquan Akiel Ladson, 19 years old, charged with Wearing Masks in the Like and Pedestrian in the Roadway. – Devondre Carlos Benbow, 18 years old, charged with Wearing Masks in the Like and Trafficking Fentanyl.
