Located in the heart of Olde North Charleston, The Barbeque Joint is an excellent example of a business that has committed to making the outside of their business bloom with beauty.  The Barbeque Joint has enhanced their outdoor seating area with unique metal tubs and hanging ferns that contribute to the theme of their restaurant.  Owner Scott Cloud credits Jeff Jackson of Lowcountry Roots with putting the time and effort into beautifying the restaurant.  The Barbeque Joint not only cares about the outside of their business, but makes efforts to recycle materials used during their daily operations.  The Barbeque Joint is truly an excellent example of a beautiful business in North Charleston.

Chili's North Charleston

5274 International Boulevard
Chilis.com - North Charleston

When walking up to the front entrance of Chili's North Charleston, you see a tasteful array of color and green bushes. The area puts a smile on your face. The building has an outdoor patio with televisions so you can enjoy the garden as you eat your meal or enjoy a football game on television. There is no litter in the parking area, and the grass is regularly maintained with small trees planted in the area. The manager of Chili's depends on a local landscaper, "Forever Green," to keep the area maintained and looking nice. It is obvious that Chili's North Charleston is concerned about having a positive impact on the image of North Charleston.

The North Charleston Coliseum, Convention, & Performing Arts Center has a huge impact as far as beautification in North Charleston. Their pride and commitment to the North Charleston community is obvious as you drive past the complex, and it is apparent that the employees take great care in the appearance of the Coliseum and the appearance it has to the surrounding community. This is a highly traveled area fronting International Boulevard and Montague Avenue. The area has beautiful landscaping at the entrance including flowers and trees and is always litter-free. We are fortunate to have such a fine organization in our city.

Cathedral of Praise

Cathedral of Praise on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston has beautiful landscaping surrounding their entire building and entrances. Both of their main entrances have large and colorful plantings to greet you as you arrive on the church and school campuses. There are beautiful plantings everywhere you look; and in areas where planting was not possible, containers have been installed with even more colorful plants. The design can be credited to church member Sabrina Morgan, who worked with a team to create a landscape plan and install it around the property. Cathedral of Praise is also taking steps to become more energy efficient by working with an energy management company to control heating and air conditioning units and changing all of their lighting to more energy efficient bulbs.

It is obvious to anyone who passes by that they have made a commitment to maintaining the beautiful landscaping around their building. The restaurant is surrounded by colorful plantings. Containers are placed at the doors to greet customers as they enter, and window boxes are hanging on the railings around the building. The landscape design was done by the sisters of one of the managers, and the restaurant plans to reuse the boxes from year to year. Chick-fil-A as a company is working towards becoming more environmentally friendly with plans to explore a cup recycling program and opening their first LEED certified restaurant in 2011.
