Keep North Charleston Beautiful and Keep Charleston Beautiful sponsor the annual Clean Cities Sweep during the months of March and April. Thousands of volunteers participate each year by planning a cleanup and/or beautification event in their community. Groups that register to participate are eligible for contests and prizes, free project supplies, and a Clean Cities Sweep planning kit.

For 2012, Clean Cities Sweep was held the week of April 22-29, 2012.  School groups will had their Clean Cities Sweep events during the month of March.

The 2012 Clean Cities Sweep was our most successful year ever with over 175 events held by 54 different groups.  We had 22,375 volunteers who donated 46,662 hours for a volunteer value of service of $1,017,231.60. More than 7,291 bags of litter and debris were removed and replaced by 1,780 flowers and trees. More than 35 miles of roadway were cleaned and beautified and 82 gardens were created or improved. There were 123 different educational events with 4,239 children and young adults in attendance learning about volunteerism and taking care of the environment.  26 different playgrounds and community areas were cleaned or restored.
