Quilt & Fiber Art Touring Exhibition
Art/Humanity is a unique quilt and fiber art exhibition organized by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department and exhibited through the South Carolina State Museum Traveling Exhibits Program. The 5th annual exhibition was originally presented as a component of the 2011 North Charleston Arts Festival. Curated by Torreah “Cookie” Washington, works included in the show are inspired by a quote by Brock Peters, “In Art there is compassion, in compassion there is humanity, with humanity there is generosity and love.” African American art quilters from across the nation were invited to explore and depict themes of Art, Humanity, Compassion, Service, Generosity, and Love in cloth through traditional and non-traditional fiber techniques.
This exclusive show features 23 pieces of exceptional quality work by Cassandra Allen, Pauline and Qydezia Barrett, Caroline Brackat, Lenora Brown, Cynthelia Cephas, Arianne King Comer, Jacqueline Dukes, Cherrymae Golston, Phyllis Harris, Esther Iverem, Jacqueline Johnson, Antonia Torres, Rosalind Spann, Torreah “Cookie” Washington, and Michelle Willis.
