About the Competition & Exhibition
The South Carolina Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Competition & Exhibition, now in its 8th year, features over one hundred juried works from the state's top fine craft artisans. The unique exhibition offers fine craft artists the opportunity to exhibit their inspiring objects in the media of clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood, and three-dimensional mixed media, as well as compete for ribbons and cash prizes. The competition and exhibition is organized and presented by the North Charleston Cultural Arts Department, with assistance from the South Carolina Artisans Center, and is a component of the North Charleston Arts Festival.
The exhibition will be on display and available for purchase at the Charleston Area Convention Center (5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston, SC 29418)
from May 1- May 8, 2010.

About the Juror
The juror for 2010 SC Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Competition & Exhibition is Brian Lang, Associate Curator of Decorative Arts at the Columbia Museum of Art. In this capacity, Mr. Lang is responsible for the museum’s collection of furniture, ceramics, glass, silver, and related objects. He recently curated the critically acclaimed exhibition, Carolina Collects (2008). Before joining the Columbia Museum of Art, Mr. Lang served as Museum Curator for Dumbarton House; was Manager of Operations for the Vance Kirkland Museum and Foundation, Denver, CO; and served as curator of the Hiwan Homestead Museum, Evergreen, CO. He received his BA in Anthropology, Spanish, and Museum Studies at Beloit College, and his MA in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Denver.
The South Carolina Palmetto Hands Traveling Exhibit
Following the close of the exhibition, up to thirty works selected by the juror will tour the state through the South Carolina State Museum’s 2010/2011 Traveling Exhibitions Program. Sites across South Carolina may request to host the exhibition at their facilities, thus providing additional exposure for the selected artists.
