Building Inspections
The Building Inspection Department's Mission Statement reflects its protection of life, health and property as a solemn responsibility of the highest order. Recognizing the public's trust bestowed upon individuals engaged in the administration and enforcement of building regulatory codes, the Building Department advocates its commitments to a standard of professional behavior that exemplifies the highest ideals and principles of ethical conduct.
The Building Department is responsible for the issuing of building permits both residential and commercial, new construction and renovations. We are located on the 3rd floor of City Hall in the One Stop Shop. Permits can be issued Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. The following are the mandatory codes and the dates of their adoption and implementation:
2006 International Building Code, July 1, 2008
2006 International Fire Code, July 1, 2008
2006 International Plumbing Code, July 1, 2008
2006 International Mechanical Code, July 1, 2008
2006 International Fuel Gas Code, July 1, 2008
2008 National Electric Code July 1, 2009
2006 International Residential Code, July 1, 2009
All commercial construction plans submitted after July 1, 2008 must meet
the 2006 International Building Codes and all other applicable codes
The state of SC did not adopt the 2009 International Building Code or 2009 International Residential Codes, therefore the 2006 International Building and 2009 International Residential Codes will remain in effect until the adoption of the 2012 International Building and 2012 Residential Codes have been approved/adopted by the state.
The Building Inspection Department is now offering online services to assist in the permitting and inspection request process. This service is powered by BuildERadius and can be seen at www.buildingdepartment.com.
Inspections can be requested by calling (843) 740-2569:
Monday - Friday 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm for next day inspections
Monday- Friday 8:00 am- 9:00 am for same day inspections
