Youth Athletics

Winter Basketball

Youth Basketball games continue to be played at Danny Jones, Northwoods, River Oaks, and Sterett Hall through the month of February. All-Star teams will be picked  in February for ages 9 – 14. Tournament sites will be given out and all the boys and girls teams will begin play on February 24th. The 7 – 8 year old teams will be playing a city wide post season tournament when their regular season ends.

Youth Baseball and Softball

Registration for our “Youth Baseball/Softball Program” will continue through January 31st, 2012. The registration fee remains at $30.00 for North Charleston residents and $60.00 for non-residents. As a convenience to our citizens, multiple registration sites throughout the City are available including Accabee Community Center, Armory Park, Gethsemani Community Center, Jeanene Batten Community Center, Northwoods, Park Circle, River Oaks, and the Recreation Department at City Hall. Youth ages 4 through 15 may participate this year. In baseball, the age groups include T-Ball (4 & 5), Machine Pitch (6 – 8), Dixie Minor (9 & 10), Dixie Youth (11 & 12), and Dixie Boys (13 & 14). Softball age groups include Coach Pitch (6 – 8), Dixie Angels (9 & 10), Dixie Ponytails (11 & 12), and Dixie Belles (13 – 15).

Middle School Athletics

Middle School Winter Sports 

The North Charleston Recreation Department and CCSD Middle School Basketball and Cheerleading program are uderway. Games are played at Ferndale Gym, Military Magnet Gym, Jerry Zucker School of Science Gym and Northwoods Middle School Gym.

Participating Middle Schools are Northwoods Middle, Morningside Middle, Military Magnet, and Jerry Zucker School of Science.

Adult Sports

Adult Softball and Adult Flag Football

Spring/Summer season Manager's Meeting is February 1, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Park Circle.

Adult Basketball

The Winter Basketball season is underway on Sunday afternoons at the Danny Jones Gym.  Eight teams are participating in the league this winter.  For more information contact Mike Gillison at 843-745-1033.

Table Tennis

The North Charleston Table tennis club meets each Tuesday at Armory Park located on the Danny Jones Complex.  The club meets 6:15 pm - 10:00 pm and invites any new player wishing to become part of the program.  For more information, call Cindy Dambaugh at (843) 740-5801.

Disc Golf

Disc Golf is played on the outer 8 islands around Park Circle Monday - Sunday from dusk to dawn, continuously.  Tuesday night doubles are played beginning at 6:00 pm.  Registration takes place at the #1 tee box at 5:00 pm.  For more information on Disc Golf, call (843) 740-5801 or e-mail Jonas Card at CDGC@bellsouth.net

Fly Dog Fitness

The North Charleston Recreation Department and "Fly Dog Fitness" have joined together to offer Adult Fitness programs in callaborative effort to make "North Charleston More Physically Fit"!  Together we are offering the most unique, creative and exciting workouts ion the area.  Whether you consider yourself to be in good shape or can't remember the last time you did more physical activity required at work, we can cater to your fitness level.

We are offering you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself, raise your self-esteem, and increase your social value and influence...all while getting an invigorating workout.

Classes take place for the majority on the outside; utilizing some of North Charleston's most beautiful green spaces at Park Circle, Danny Jones Complex and Riverfront Park. Morning classes meet on M,W,F (3 days a week, 12 sessions) 6:00 am - 7:00 am.  Evening classes meet Mon.-Thurs. (4 days a week, 16 sessions) 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  In addition to our 6 am and 6 pm sessions, we offer Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am and 5 pm classes.  Once you sign up for one time slot, you may attend as many different sessions in a 4 week camp as you like!  For more information, call Cindy Dambaugh at (843) 740-5801 or e-mail cdambaugh@northcharleston.org.  Visit Fly Dog Fitness on the web at www.flydogfitness.com


Programs

Summer Camp

Registration will begin on Monday, February 13, 2012 for North Charleston residents. The Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for Summer Camp counselor positions. Counselors from previous years have filled out applications and the remaining candidates consist of individuals who have degrees in Early Childhood Education or are full-time teachers seeking summer employment. Orientation and training for the counselors will begin on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

Applications are currently being accepted for Junior Camp counselors.

Afterschool Programs

After school programs are currently taking place at 13 community centers in the North Charleston area. Programming includes recreational activities, games, arts and crafts and homework tutoring. Children are well supervised and encouraged to learn and take part in team building activities and games during the program. After school programs run Monday to Friday, 2:30pm to 5:30pm.

Senior Programs

Look for our Upcoming "Walk the Circle" Program!

ZUMBA Classes at Park Circle

Senior Line Dancing (class registration is continuous)

Each Monday morning at Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 9:30 am - 11:00 am.

Seniorcize

This very low impact senior exercise class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

Self Defense

A new self-defense class meets at Park Circle on Thursdays at 5:30 pm.  For more iformation, call Belinda windler at (843) 745-1028.

Annual Events

Youth
Pitch, Hit and Run

This program allows young athletes to showcase their individual skills in pitching, hitting and running. Local competition is tentatively schedule during April. All around winners will advance to a sectional competition. Participants must play in local league. 15th Annual April's Finest Senior Softball Classic

April 19-22, 2012

The North Charleston Recreation Department sponsors one of the largest Senior Softball Tournaments on the East Coast.
