Working with the community to enhance the image and aesthetics of the City of North Charleston through beautification and education initiatives |
The City of North Charleston initiated Keep North Charleston Beautiful in August of 2000. Mayor Summey has a deep commitment to improving the beauty and cleanliness of North Charleston. This was after the City of North Charleston and Charleston formed a partnership to launch a two city cleanup initiative. This initiative was named the Clean Cities Sweep and was voted the best cleanup program for its size in the United States by Keep America Beautiful.
The City of North Charleston wanted to expand its successful beautification programs so Mayor Summey tasked a city staff member to create Keep North Charleston Beautiful (KNCB). KNCB is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and a member of Keep South Carolina Beautiful. Shortly after becoming a Keep America Beautiful affiliate KNCB was granted a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status. A city staff member was appointed to act as the Executive Director for the nonprofit.
From the inception of the program dedicated volunteers have donated their time to working diligently to beautify the city. KNCB members look forward to expanding the programs offered by KNCB and enhancing the appearance of North Charleston over the next several years.
