Mayor Summey Honored
Mayor Keith Summey received recognition from Charleston Southern University with the reception of an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service on Saturday, December 16, 2006 during the University’s fall graduation ceremony. This distinguished honor was presented to him by Dr. Jairy C. Hunter, President of Charleston Southern.
While delivering the commencement speech to the Fall Graduating Class of 2006, Mayor Summey reflected on his past as a student at Charleston Southern, then the Baptist College at Charleston. Denoting that it was his education that allowed him to prepare for the future, he encouraged the graduates to embrace and accept change and in doing so success will follow.
Mayor Summey was elated to receive the recognition in Public Service, and felt it to be a great privilege to be held in such high regard by his collegiate alma mater.
