The City of North Charleston Fire Department provides fire protection to city residents and businesses with 10 companies of firemen, three companies of aerial apparatus, one service rescue unit, and three quick response service vehicles, from eleven locations. The Fire Department is equipped with the latest fire fighting equipment and apparatus and is capable of handling anything from grass fire to high-rise building fires. The Fire Department assists EMS with a first responder program in handling victims of a heart attack, stroke, and accidents and, in addition, provides hazardous materials response.
Mission
The mission of the City of North Charleston Fire Department is to ensure the health and safety of the citizens of and the visitors to the City of North Charleston, South Carolina, by reducing life and property loss from fire and to ensure that the buildings and structures within the City meet applicable fire and related codes.
The Department works toward its mission by providing a variety of services including, but not limited to: Extinguishing fires; Providing various levels of rescue assistance; Providing support to the emergency medical services; Providing operations to control and mediate hazardous materials emergencies; Conducting investigations into the origin and cause of fires; Pursuing criminal charges against persons guilty of the crime of arson; Providing fire safety inspections and the enforcement of codes; Providing public fire safety education programs; and providing assistance in other hazardous situations. The men and women of the City of North Charleston Fire Department are committed to providing the highest quality of service to the citizens of our City.
