Theater & Concerts
The City of North Charleston offers residents and visitors a variety of entertainment venues from a large arena setting to the intimate store front theater.
As the largest entertainment venue in the Lowcountry, the North Charleston Coliseum Complex has hosted over 8 million visitors at countless concerts, conventions, sporting events, and family shows. The Complex boasts a 13,500 seat Coliseum and a Performing Arts Center with 2,300 seats and full production capabilities.
The North Charleston POPS! was founded in June of 2012 in partnership with the North Charleston Performing Arts Center and Coliseum as an addition to the dynamic offerings of the City of North Charleston on its 40th Anniversary Celebration. The first official concert of the POPS! took place in the Coliseum at the city's anniversary gift to the community, a concert accompanying Earth, Wind and Fire, to a crowd of 7,000. Members of the POPS! have also played for touring Broadway shows such as Chicago, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins and WICKED. Featured at the Arts Festival Gala on April 26, 2013, the POPS! will also be performing at the 4th of July fireworks celebration at Riverfront Park.
The North Charleston POPS! is a fully professional orchestra dedicated to bringing music of a popular nature to the Lowcountry and is supported by private and public donations and subscription sales. The POPS! has a unique style of combining an orchestra with a rock band and vocalists. It is always a surprise to first time concertgoers, but they love it.
North Charleston is also home to the Old North Charleston Picture House, a project of the Park Circle Film Society, presenting films and shorts not generally shown in local commercial theaters.
The Dinner Theatre Series is held in the elegant setting of the Embassy Ballroom of the Charleston Area Convention Center. Hosting local to national productions, the series provides guests with an evening of good eats and entertainment.
