Frances Beidler Forest
Francis Beidler ForestFrancis Beidler Forest is the world's largest virgin cypress-tupelo swamp forest. This 11,000-acre riverine sanctuary in the heart of the Four Holes Swamp embraces 1,800 acres of ancient trees that tower over blackwater streams, clear pools and 300 species of wildlife. Enjoy the forest from an elevated boardwalk that conveniently ends and begins at the visitor's Center. The Four holes Swamp begins in Calhoun County SC and flows 62 serpentine miles through four lowcountry counties before its clear waters join the Edisto River and the Atlantic Ocean. The forest has been left totally alone - no attempt is made to lure its wildlife to the boardwalk, no animal feeding takes place, no plantings are made, no fallen trees are removed. Here is a swamp as nature intended it.
