Veterans Day Celebration Information
The City of North Charleston will host its annual Veterans Day tribute on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm at Park Circle featuring a veteran speaker and Medal of Honor recipient Captain Flo Groberg. We ask veterans and the public to join Mayor Keith Summey and City Council in this special ceremony. Each year, over 500 veterans in attendance are honored. All veterans in attendance will be recognized and will receive a specially designed commemorative coin. North Charleston Farmers Market
is open every Thursday, at Park Circle
12noon - 6pm
The farmer’s market at Park Circle is open Thursday’s from noon to 6pm. The market offers a wide selection of local produce as well as shopping with a variety of vendors. Live entertainment is provided weekly by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department, 4-6pm. We enjoy two hundred visitors weekly.
Afterschool Registration continues until all afterschool community center sites are full to capacity. The North Charleston afterschool program is designed to keep your child motivated and active afterschool while providing quality supervision and guidance. We focus on academic enrichment and recreational activities designed to teach your child valuable leadership and life skills they can use in their everyday decision making processes. Commitment, responsibility, socialization, creativity and physical activity are key components of the program which ensures that children are on track to become productive citizens of society. Boeing Day on Liberty Hill
The Boeing Community Day at Liberty Hill will take place on Saturday, November 5th from 10:00am-2:00pm at the Felix Pinckney Community Center. This is a free family event that features free food, live music, inflatables, giveaways, face painting, jugglers and much more. Come out and enjoy the event!
The City of North Charleston’s Veteran’s Day event will be held November 11th at 10:30am at Park Circle. The Recreation Department’s Afterschool Programs will host their annual Essay Contest and Poster Contest. Each Afterschool Program site will submit a poster that represents the theme “Home of the Brave.” Students are welcome to submit essays that depict the theme “Veterans are important because…” The essay winners will be invited to read their essay at the Veterans Day event. The winning poster will be displayed at the event.
The City of North Charleston Recreation Department’s Winter Wonderland will take place on November 29, 30, and December 1, 2 from 9:00am-1:30pm at Armory Park. This is a free preschool event that features a visit with Santa, arts and crafts, music room, inflatables and much more! To register or request permission slips, contact Allyson Austin at (843) 740-5807. Pre-registration is required by groups and individuals no later than November 18, 2016. Each child must have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian.

Labor Day weekend will be the final days our pools at Collins Park, Felix Pinckney, and Northwoods Park will be open for the summer. The Danny Jones pool will be closed on Sundays.

High School Swimming
The high school swim teams kick off their new season the first week of August. The Danny Jones pool will once again be the main training facility for all the athletes from Stall High School and the reigning State Champions, Academic Magnet.
LAPS is back! Starting September 19, they will be teaching kids in the local elementary schools how to swim. This program lasts the entire year and is available at almost every school in the area.

Baseball and Softball
The regular season has wrapped up and teams are getting ready for post season play. The post season tournament will begin the week of November 7. North Charleston will be hosting the Coach Pitch championship game. Those games will be held at Wescott Park. North Charleston will also be involved in hosting some 10U Softball games. Currently, brackets are being formed for the baseball tournament. Higher seed teams will be the host at their respective parks.
Football and Cheerleading
The Football season has ended and the Union Heights Raiders swept this year’s regular season championships. The 7/8, 9/10 & 11/12 teams won their respective league championships. Teams have been selected for All-Stars and practices will begin the first week in November. North Charleston will be hosting the first game of the 9/10, 11/12 & 13/14 divisional play-offs. On November 28 the 9/10 North Charleston All-Star team will face Orangeburg All-Stars at 6:30pm at North Charleston High School. On November 29 the 11/12 North Charleston All-Stars will face the Orangeburg All-Stars and the 13/14 North Charleston All-Stars will face the City of Charleston All-Stars at North Charleston High School at 6:15pm and 7:30pm. Winners of those games will advance to the next round and those dates, times and locations will be determined.
The North Charleston Cheerleading Cheer-Off will be held on Wednesday November 9 at Northwoods Park Gymnasium. Start time is at 6:30pm. The Cheer-Off is an opportunity for the Cheerleading squads to show off their dancing moves and routines in a fun way to wrap up their season. Local step-teams and dancing teams will also be participating in this event
The soccer season has wrapped up on Saturday, October 29. Teams have been selected and are ready to compete in All-Star competition. Our U8 teams will be participating in an in-house postseason tournament to be held at our River Oaks Complex. Those games will begin on Saturday, November 5.
The U10, U12 & U15 teams will begin All-Star play on Saturday, November 12. Our U10 team will be playing at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. The U12 team will be competing in West Ashley at the West Ashley Park soccer complex. North Charleston will be hosting the U15 all-star tournament at our River Oaks soccer complex.
Middle School Athletics
Registration for Middle School Basketball for boys and girls will be held during the month of November. Students can register at the school they attend; Morningside Middle, Northwoods Middle, Military Magnet Academy and Zucker Middle Schools.

The Senior Softball fall league continues play at MeadWestvaco-KapStone Park Games are played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:45pm.
Tuesday Morning League
The Tuesday morning Senior League continues play fall season. This league plays each Tuesday morning at MeadWestvaco-KapStone Park. All games start at 9:15am.

The fall season for Co-Ed Adult Kickball is underway. Kickball sees competitive play on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and on Tuesdays at Wescott Park. Games are begin at 6:30pm.
The fall season for Adult Co-Ed Flag Football continues play. Games are played at the Doc Hursey field on Monday nights.
The fall season for Adult Co-Ed Softball continues play . Games will be played Sunday at 10am. Games are played at MeadWestvaco-Kapstone Park and Murray Hill Park.

The North Charleston Recreation Department has a very active Adult Tennis Program. Our team tennis program offers a variety of levels of competition and is open to men and women. Matches are played against teams across the Greater Charleston area.
The North Charleston Recreation Department offers Tennis Lessons and Clinics at the Collins Park Tennis Center on the Collins Park Complex (4115 Fellowship Road off Dorchester Road). Fees vary depending on type of lesson or clinic (group or private), Lesson Packages are available. Lessons are available for Adults and Children. Fly Dog Fitness
The North Charleston Recreation Department and "Fly Dog Fitness" have joined together to offer Adult Fitness programs in collaborative effort to make "North Charleston More Physically Fit"! Together we are offering the most unique, creative and exciting workouts in the area. Whether you consider yourself to be in good shape or can't remember the last time you did more physical activity required at work, we can cater to your fitness level.
We are offering you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself, raise your self-esteem, and increase your social value and influence...all while getting an invigorating workout.
Classes take place for the majority on the outside; utilizing some of North Charleston's most beautiful green spaces at Park Circle, Danny Jones Complex and Riverfront Park. Morning classes meet on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 5:30am - 6:30am; Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6:00am - 7:00am. Evening class meets Tuesdays from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. All levels are welcome! Pitch, Hit and Run
This program allows young athletes to showcase their individual skills in pitching, hitting and running. Local competition is tentatively schedule during April. All around winners will advance to a sectional competition. Participants must play in local league. Ages 7-8 years; Ages 9-10 years; Ages 11-12 years; Ages 13-14 years.
