Happening In October 2017

Harvest Festival

Join us for our 5th annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 21st on East Montague Avenue between Virginia Avenue and Jenkins Avenue. It's FREE fall fun for all ages! Rain or shine!


*Trick-or-treat on the street for kids 12 & under sponsored by Olde Village merchants w/ treat bags provided by City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department (4:00-6:00pm while supplies last)

*KID'S ZONE with games, craft activity led by the City's Artist-in-Residence Camela Guevara, face painting, interactive drumming, and inflatables (4:00-6:00pm)

*Artist market featuring booths by members of the North Charleston Artist Guild and other local makers

*Mechanical bull

*Pop-up pumpkin patch where you can buy and decorate your gourd on-site (CASH ONLY)

*Costume contests for children, adults, and pets (6:00pm) FREE to enter! Prizes furnished by Olde Village merchants, Park Pets, and the City of North Charleston Rec Department

*LIVE Music by Minimum Wage and Mark Schuler

Youth Programs

Community Center Afterschool Program

Afterschool Registration registration continues continue until all afterschool community center sites are filled to capacity.  The North Charleston afterschool program is designed to keep your child motivated and active afterschool while providing quality supervision and guidance.  We focus on academic enrichment and recreational activities designed to teach your child valuable leadership and life skills they can use in their everyday decision making processes.  Commitment, responsibility, socialization, creativity and physical activity are key components of the program which ensures that children are on track to become productive citizens of society.  All afterschool sites will have the supper program offered by the Lowcountry Food Bank. Summer Pool Pass

If you plan on being at our city pools all summer we offer summer passes at a great price. The cost is $30 individual/$50 family for North Charleston residents and gets you access to any of our 4 pools from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. The cost for non-residents is $60 individual/$100 family. You can get your pass at the Armory across the street from the Danny Jones pool.  

Water Aerobics

Our popular year round water aerobics class continues on M/T/Th at 9:30 am for the morning session and 6:00 pm for the evening session. The cost is $20 per month. If you have any questions feel free to stop by a class and talk to our instructor Catherine Dixon.

Youth Swim Team

Information about the City of North Charleston youth swim team can be found at www.watermocs.com. You can find information about fees, pool location, practice times, coaches, age(s), equipment needed, meet schedule and much more. The minimum age is 6 years old and kids must be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards freestyle and 25 yards backstroke to be considered for the team for safety and competitive reasons. Practice started in September but athletes can join throughout the year.

Adult Water Polo

North Charleston will be offering Water Polo at the Danny Jones pool for the first time! Adults practice Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:15pm – 8:15pm and Saturdays 10am – 12pm. The cost is $30 per month. For more information you can contact Bora Yatagan. byatagan@northcharleston.org

Masters Swim Team

If you would like to join the team they practice Monday - Friday at 6am at the Danny Jones pool. The cost is $35 per month and the team ranges in age from 18-70. www.palmettomasters.org

Youth Athletics

Football and Cheerleading

Games will continue to be played this year at Pepperhill Park, Danny Jones and Military Magnet football fields through the end of October. Games are played Monday-Wednesdays and Saturdays. 


The regular season will start October 2nd and continue the entire month. Game will be played at River Oaks, Northwoods Park and Lents field Monday-Thursday as well as Saturdays.  

Fall Baseball and Softball

The fall baseball and softball season will continue the rest of October and will end with post season tournaments. Home games are played Mon-Thurs as well as some Saturdays at Wescott and Pepperhill Parks.

Middle School Athletics


The Middle School Football game are being played on Wednesday, through the month of October.  The middle school football games are played on Wednesdays evening at 5:30pm and 7:00pm.


The Middle School Volleyball League are playing their games Mondays through Thursdays throughout the season.

Men's Senior Softball

The summer season for Co-Ed Adult Kickball will continue play at Ingevity-Kapstone.   Kickball sees competitive play on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at Ingevity-Kapstone Park beginning at 6:30pm.  To join the next league in the fall, please visit our registration site at www.charlestonssc.com.

Flag Football

The summer Adult Co-Ed Flag Football is playing at River Oaks Complex. Games begin at 6:30pm each Monday night.  Come check out Monday Night Football in North Charleston!

Co-Ed Softball

The summer season for Adult Co-Ed Softball continues play.  Games begin at 10am each Sunday morning and are played at Lent's Field.

Adult Tennis

The North Charleston Recreation Department has a very active Adult Tennis Program. Our team tennis program offers a variety of levels of competition and is open to men and women. Matches are played against teams across the Greater Charleston area.

Tennis Clinics/Lessons

The North Charleston Recreation Department offers Tennis Lessons and Clinics at the Collins Park Tennis Center on the Collins Park Complex (4115 Fellowship Road off Dorchester Road). Fees vary depending on type of lesson or clinic (group or private), Lesson Packages are available.  Lessons are available for Adults and Children. Disc Golf

Disc Golf is played on the outer 8 islands around Park Circle Monday – Sunday from dusk to dawn, continuously.  Tuesday night doubles are played beginning at 6pm.  Registration takes place at the #1 tee box at 5:00 pm.  For more information on Disc Golf, call (843) 740-5801 or (843) 745-1028.

Fly Dog Fitness

The North Charleston Recreation Department and "Fly Dog Fitness" have joined together to offer Adult Fitness programs in collaborative effort to make "North Charleston More Physically Fit"!  Together we are offering the most unique, creative and exciting workouts in the area.  Whether you consider yourself to be in good shape or can't remember the last time you did more physical activity required at work, we can cater to your fitness level.

We are offering you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself, raise your self-esteem, and increase your social value and influence...all while getting an invigorating workout.

Classes take place for the majority on the outside; utilizing some of North Charleston's most beautiful green spaces at Park Circle, Danny Jones Complex and Riverfront Park. Morning classes meet on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 5:30am - 6:30am; Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6am - 7am.  Evening class meets Tuesdays from 6pm - 7pm.  All levels are welcome!   For more information, visit Fly Dog Fitness on the web at www.flydogfitness.com

Pickleball 101

All Seniors are invited to come out and play the new and exciting game of PICKLEBALL, Tuesdays, Thursday and Sundays at 7pm at the Danny Jones Complex.

3 on 3 Basketball

Bring your game, bring your team and join us as we build our 3 on 3 basketball league. Individuals and teams are encouraged to register and participate.  Join us at Northwoods Gym, 8348 Greenridge Rd., Tuesday, 10:30am-12:30pm and/or Danny Jones Gym, 1455 Monitor St., Thursday, 10am-12pm

Disaster Kit Distibution

In cooperation with Emergency Operations and Disaster Preparedness, the JOY program will be distributing disaster kits and Hurricane preparedness information throughout senior programs.  For more information, call Belinda Swindler at (843) 745-1028. 

Thomas Evans CC Seniors

Chair Exercise
Chair Exercise is held each Friday at 10am.  All seniors are invited to come take part in this low impact exercise program.

Men's Coffee Gathering
Calling all Senior Men!  Join us each Wednesday morning beginning at 10am for coffee and fellowship.

Belly Dancing

Belly Dancing continues on Thursdays at 7pm, at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.   This class is designed for all ages including seniors.

"Senior Sneakers"

Join us as we "Walk the Circle" at our leisure!  Log your laps inside the community center at the receptionist desk and become eligible for Incentive Prizes for walking milestones.  Registration is required for this FREE program.  Men and women 50+ years of age are eligible to take part.  registration is continuous!

Senior Water Aerobics

Registration for Senior Water Aerobics .  Registrations are accepted at Armory Park or Park Circle. The cost is $20 a month.

Self Defense

A Self-Defense class is now being held at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle each Thursday afternoon beginning at 5:30 p.m.  For more information, contact Belinda swindler at (843) 745-1028.

ZUMBA Classes at Park Circle

Kelli offers a Tuesday and Thursday evening class at 5:30 pm-6:30 pm.  Cost is $5 per class.  For more information, call Belinda Swindler at (843) 745-1028.

ZUMBA Gold at Thomas M. Evans, Sr. Community Center

This class is designed for Seniors and is held on Tuesday mornings.  For more information call, (843) 760-4289.

Senior Line Dancing (class registration is continuous)

Each Monday morning at Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 9:30 am - 11:00 am.  Classes in December will be held at Armory Park due to Christmas Festivities at Park Circle.


This very low impact senior exercise class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

"JOY” Table Tennis

Monday and Wednesday, 9:30am-11:30am – Armory Park

"Joy Bocce"

Tuesday and Thursday, 10am-noon – Armory Park

"Joy Tappers" Basic Tap Lessons

 The JOY Tappers meet on Wednesdays at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.

Annual Events


Pitch, Hit and Run

This program allows young athletes to showcase their individual skills in pitching, hitting and running. Local competition is tentatively schedule during April. All around winners will advance to a sectional competition. Participants must play in local league.
