What's Happening this Month


Breakfast with Santa

The Recreation Department is sponsoring “Breakfast with Santa” on December 5 at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle in North Charleston.  Bring your cameras and capture some wonderful memories. The Breakfast will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  Breakfast will consist of Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage and Juice or Milk.  Price for this event is $4.00 for both children and adults.  Tickets may be purchased at Park Circle Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. or at the Recreation Department on the 2nd Floor at North Charleston City Hall.

Youth Programs


Afterschool Program

Afterschool Registration has started and will resume until all afterschool community center sites are full to capacity.  Academic enrichment and recreational activities are being offered during the 2015-2016 afterschool program year.  New this year for all afterschool sites is the supper program offered by the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Activity and Play Days

Activity and Play Days will be offered on selected days during the CCSD holiday break held in November. Participants must bring a bag lunch, drink, and snack. Winter Wonderland

Veterans Day Contest

The Afterschool Programs in partnership with CCSD Kaleidoscope and 21 Century programs will participate in the Veteran’s Day poster board and essay contest. All contest entries will be displayed on November 11th at the Veteran’s Day celebration held at the Felix C. Davis Community Center, Park Circle


Masters Swimming

Palmetto Masters are practicing at the Danny Jones from 6:00 am-7:00 am.  The cost is $15 resident/$30 non-resident per month and the ages range from 18-70.   You can find more information at www.palmettomasters.org

Water Aerobics

Water Aerobics continues to be popular with our seniors. November has a few spots left for those interested in joining.  The cost is $30 per month and the class meets on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00am to 10:00am and from 6:00pm-7:00pm. 

North Charleston Swim Team

 The North Charleston Swim Team has begun!  We have 40 registered athletes. Practices will be offered on M-F from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Our athletes will have their first meet on October 3rd at the LTP pool in Mount Pleasant, SC. For more information regarding our swim team please contact Doug Fetchen at 843-745-1028.

 Youth Athletics

Winter Basketball 

Registration for Winter Basketball will continue until the end of October. Our teams will start practicing in December and games will tip off in January.

Fall Football and Cheerleading

Our Youth Football Program will continue to play games Monday through Thursday at Danny Jones and Pepperhill Football fields. Games begin at 6:15pm. At the end of the regular season all divisions except Flag will pick all-star teams and play in tournament against other recreation department all-star teams. 

Cheerleading squads will continue to cheer and support their teams. The cheerleading teams represent each sector of our City including Union Heights, Northwoods, Danny Jones, and Pepperhill. The cheerleading exhibition will be held on November 10th at Northwoods gym at 6:30pm. This will give the cheerleaders a chance to show off what they have learned.

Fall Soccer

Games will continue to be played Monday through Thursday and some Saturdays at River Oaks Soccer Complex, Lents Field and Northwoods. A post season tournament will be held for our U8 division at River Oaks Soccer Complex. The U10, U12 and U15 teams will pick all-star teams and compete against other recreation department all-star teams

beginning November 13th.  

Fall Baseball/Softball

The fall Baseball season will continue to play games Monday through Thursday, with home baseball games being played at Park Circle, Pepperhill, Westvaco and Wescott Park. The 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 year old baseball and softball divisions will wrap up their season with a post season tournaments


Middle School Athletics



The Middle School Football Playoff will start on Wednesday, November 4, at Attaway-Heinsohn Football Stadium at 5:30 p.m. in the evening in.  The championship game will be played on Monday, November 9 at North Charleston High School Football Field at 6:00 p.m.

Basketball Registration

Middle School Basketball Registration is the month of November at participating middle schools.  The area schools are Military Magnet Academy, Morningside Middle, Northwoods Middle and Zucker Middle Schools.

Adult Sports

Adult Kickball

The Adult Kickball continues the fall season in at MeadWestvaco Kapstone Park and Murray Hill Park. Games are played on Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 6:40pm.

Adult Softball

Adult Co-Ed Softball summer season is underway each Sunday beginning at 1pm at Murray Hill Field.

Men's Senior Softball

The North Charleston Recreation Department continues the fall season Games are  played Monday-Wednesday evenings at MeadWestvaco-Kapstone Park.  For more information, contact Jim Butler at 843-557-8092 or Cindy Dambaugh at 843-740-5801.

Adult Tennis

The North Charleston Recreation Department has a very active Adult Tennis Program. Our team tennis program offers a variety of levels of competition and is open to men and women. Matches are played against teams across the Greater Charleston area.

Tennis Clinics/Lessons

The North Charleston Recreation Department offers Tennis Lessons and Clinics at the Collins Park Tennis Center on the Collins Park Complex (4115 Fellowship Road off Dorchester Road). Fees vary depending on type of lesson or clinic (group or private), Lesson Packages are available.  Lessons are available for Adults and Children. Disc Golf

Disc Golf is played on the outer 8 islands around Park Circle Monday – Sunday from dusk to dawn, continuously.  Tuesday night doubles are played beginning at 6:00 pm.  Registration takes place at the #1 tee box at 5:00 pm.  For more information on Disc Golf, call (843) 740-5801 or (843) 745-1028.

Fly Dog Fitness

The North Charleston Recreation Department and "Fly Dog Fitness" have joined together to offer Adult Fitness programs in collaborative effort to make "North Charleston More Physically Fit"!  Together we are offering the most unique, creative and exciting workouts in the area.  Whether you consider yourself to be in good shape or can't remember the last time you did more physical activity required at work, we can cater to your fitness level.

We are offering you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself, raise your self-esteem, and increase your social value and influence...all while getting an invigorating workout.

Classes take place for the majority on the outside; utilizing some of North Charleston's most beautiful green spaces at Park Circle, Danny Jones Complex and Riverfront Park. Morning classes meet on M,W,F (3 days a week, 12 sessions) 6:00 am - 7:00 am.  Evening classes meet Mon.-Thurs. Pickleball 101

All Seniors are invited to come out and play the new and exciting game of PICKLEBALL, Tuesdays, Thursday and Sundays at 7pm at the Danny Jones Complex.


"Senior Sneakers"

Join us as we "Walk the Circle" at our leisure!  Log your laps inside the community center at the receptionist desk and become eligible for Incentive Prizes for walking milestones.  Registration is required for this FREE program.  Men and women 50+ years of age are eligible to take part.  registration is continuous!

Senior Water Aerobics

Registration for Senior Water Aerobics .  Registrations are accepted at Armory Park or Park Circle. The cost is $20 a month.

Self Defense

A Self-Defense class is now being held at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle each Thursday afternoon beginning at 5:30 p.m.  For more information, contact Belinda swindler at (843) 745-1028.

Senteo Zumba

Senteo Zumba meets each Monday from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.

ZUMBA Classes at Park Circle

Kelli offers a Tuesday and Thursday evening class at 5:30 pm-6:30 pm.  Cost is $5 per class.  For more information, call Belinda Swindler at (843) 745-1028.

ZUMBA Gold at Thomas M. Evans, Sr. Communtiy Center

This class is designed for Seniors and is held on Tuesday mornings.  For more information call, 760-4289.

Senior Line Dancing (class registration is continuous)

Each Monday morning at Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 9:30 am - 11:00 am.  Classes in December will be held at Armory Park due to Christmas Festivities at Park Circle.


This very low impact senior exercise class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

"JOY” Table Tennis

Monday and Wednesday, 9:30am-11:30am – Armory Park

"Joy Bocce"

Tuesday and Thursday, 10am-noon – Armory Park

"Joy Tappers" Basic Tap Lessons

 The JOY Tappers meet on Wednesdays at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.

Annual Events


Pitch, Hit and Run

This program allows young athletes to showcase their individual skills in pitching, hitting and running. Local competition is tentatively schedule during April. All around winners will advance to a sectional competition. Participants must play in local league.
