BLOOM KITS

Bloom Kits are available for volunteers who would like to work in KNCB's gardens during times that are not regularly scheduled volunteer events. Kits typically include a t-shirt, garden gloves, clippers, GLAD trash bags, and small grocery bags for weeding. KNCB staff will meet with volunteers to provide training on what should be done in each garden.

CLEAN CITIES SWEEP

Clean Cities Sweep is an annual award-winning program and part of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup. During the months of March and April, participating schools and neighborhoods complete beautification and litter cleanup projects throughout North Charleston. All information about Clean Cities Sweep can be found on the CCS website at www.northcharlestonccs.org.

DAY OF CARING

KNCB participates in Trident United Way’s annual Day of Caring event each November. More than 100 volunteers from local businesses join KNCB for beautification projects throughout North Charleston. In 2016, volunteers from Joint Base Charleston, KapStone Charleston, and Molina Healthcare worked with KNCB. Photographs from 2016’s event may be viewed by clicking here.

FIELD TRIPS TO THE PARK CIRCLE BUTTERFLY GARDEN

During the month of October, KNCB invites preschool classes to visit the Park Circle Butterfly Garden for an educational program created and presented by KNCB volunteers. To learn more or to register your school, please click here.

FLOWERSCAPE

The goal of the Flowerscape program is to plant colorful gardens in highly traveled locations that will positively impact the North Charleston community. Flowerscape planted in medians are sponsored and maintained by landscape maintenance companies. Flowerscapes planted in City parks are maintained by volunteer groups. To learn more, see a list of current sponsors and locations, or learn how to sponsor a Flowerscape, please click here.

FREE COMMUNITY LITTER PICKUP KITS

KNCB provides free litter pickup kits to community volunteers who organize their own community cleanup. Some cleanup supplies are limited and are distributed on a first come, first served basis. Thank you to Keep America Beautiful and GLAD for providing trash bags for these cleanup kits!

GROUP VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

KNCB staff will help you organize a beautification event for your group in a public garden. This is a great team building project for your group that allows your team to work together to beautify the community through volunteer service.

NORTHWOODS BUTTERFLY GARDEN

The Northwoods Butterfly Garden was installed on Earth Day 2015 by youth in the center’s 4-H program. The garden is located at 8348 Greenridge Road and welcomes you as you enter the Northwoods Park Community Center. In addition to the butterfly garden, the lake-side community center offers a playground, picnic tables, swimming pool, and a gym.

PARK CIRCLE BUTTERFLY GARDEN

The Park Circle Butterfly Garden is conveniently located on the grounds of the Felix C. Davis Community Center in the center of Park Circle in North Charleston. This garden is home to more than 75 different plants that attract butterflies. The garden serves as an educational garden for the community to learn about the types of plants that thrive in the area. Visit the garden on Thursdays and you can also enjoy the North Charleston Farmer’s Market. To learn more about the garden, including the types of plants in the garden, please click here.

WEEKLY VOLUNTEER WORKDAYS

KNCB holds weekly volunteer workdays each Wednesday. Volunteers work in the gardens around Park Circle, pack supplies for upcoming programs, and help in the KNCB office. The workday schedule varies depending on the weather and tasks to complete each week. Workday updates will be posted on KNCB’s Facebook page, or you may contact the KNCB office at 843-745-1073 to set up a time to volunteer.
