Current Volunteer Opportunities

Administrative Volunteer

Help us with administrative tasks in the KNCB office.  This is an opportunity for an individual who is proficient on the computer and likes administrative tasks such as filing and data entry.  This is a great opportunity for a retired person looking to give back to their community or a student looking to gain experience.  Some tasks include database entry, filing, proofreading, inputting volunteer data, inputting inventory, and scanning monthly receipts and documents.

REQUIREMENTS:  Adults 18+; shifts are available Monday-Thursday, 7am-4pm; must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Access).  This position does require some training, so the volunteer must be available to come into the office on a consistent basis.

TASKS:

  • Inputting volunteer timesheets and information
  • Inputting inventory data
  • Keeping forms organized and stocked
  • Proofreading
  • Monitoring volunteer recruitment websites
  • Filing
  • Sending out birthday cards

  • General correspondence and letter writing

Artist and Painters

The Park Circle Butterfly Garden hosts educational tours to preschools and serves as a showcase garden of plants that thrive in the Lowcountry.  This garden is home to several beautifully painted picnic tables and benches.

There are two volunteer opportunities available to help maintain the artwork on these tables and benches:

  1. Touch-Up Artists – These volunteers are needed to do touch up work as needed.  This may include adding new artwork or fixing artwork that has become damaged. KNCB will provide all painting supplies and equipment.  Volunteers interested in this opportunity should email samples of their artwork to beautification@northcharleston.org.
  1. Volunteers to Polyurethane – These volunteers are needed to make sure the artwork on the 5 tables and 3 benches is protected.  We need a small group of volunteers several times each year to apply a few coats of polyurethane.  Our goal is to have this done monthly, and groups may commit to one or more months at a time.  KNCB will provide all supplies and equipment.  (This opportunity is available on a limited basis.)

This is a large project that we are constantly enhancing.  Painters are needed for as much or as little time as you are able to donate.  These volunteers will be added to an email list to be notified as opportunities become available throughout the year.

REQUIREMENTS:  Adults 18+; touch-up artists should email samples of artwork to beautification@northcharleston.org.

Butterfly Field Trip Volunteer

KNCB needs volunteers to assist with field trips to the Park Circle Butterfly Garden! The Park Circle Butterfly Garden hosts educational tours to preschools and serves as a showcase garden of plants that thrive in the Lowcountry.

These volunteers will assist with small classes of preschool students who tour the garden during September and October.  Volunteers work together to lead children on a tour of the garden, read a book with a small group, and help the children with a planting activity.
