Faces & Places: Through the Eyes of a Traveling Artist – Works by Trish Emery
Local artist Trish Emery will present a collection of representational and collage art executed in a variety of media in her exhibit Faces & Places: Through the Eyes of Traveling Artist. For Emery art is about color. Her journey into art began with an emerging fascination with light, how it changes and defines objects and emotions. She found that her intuitive choices set up harmonious patterns using complements, not local color alone. “I choose colors for personal reasons, to elicit an emotional response - to please, to soothe, to excite the viewer,” she explains. “I do not want my art to be complicated or inscrutable; elitist or pompous.”

Patricia “Trish” Emery of Moncks Corner, SC, is the founder and president of the Pastel Society of South Carolina and a member of the Pastel Society of America, Southeastern Pastel Society, Piedmont Pastel Society, International Association of Pastel Societies, and the Charleston Artist Guild. She has studied with artists such as Richard McKinley, Luanna Luconi Winner, Mike Beeman, Alan Flattman, Barbara Jaenicke, and Christopher Groves and was the Official Artist for the South Carolina Department of Rural Health in 2014 and 2015. Her work is in a number of private and public collections and has been exhibited in numerous group, juried, and invitational exhibitions, including the Cecil Byrne Gallery All Media National Exhibition, the Southeastern Pastel Society International Exhibition, the Charleston Fine Art Auction, the Santee Museum Juried Exhibition, and the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Exhibition.

Atmospheres – Mixed media works by Rae Broyles
In Atmospheres, Rae Broyles will present abstract mixed media pieces driven by the process and materials used to create them.  Broyles’ work is inspired by the abstract expressionists as well as by nature itself. Many of her images take on the form of landscapes and fauna, however there exists a considerable about of spontaneity in her pieces and the outcomes are not pre-determined. This spontaneity is married with intent, as there is a lot of thought given to the color palettes, compositions, transfer of energy, and materials used, which include everything from coffee grounds to molten wax, acrylic, oil, and pastel. “I am creating a visual poetry to be interpreted by the viewer,” she explains. “My process and materials are my motivation but I also succumb to the thought that I am but a vessel through which creativity flows; putting down on the canvas the images that exist in the universe but have yet to be physically realized.”

Rae Broyles was born in Chicago, IL. She has studied design, drawing, painting, and illustration at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, IL, the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. Broyles’ work has been exhibited in a number of solo, group, and juried shows throughout the country and can be seen in private and public collections both in the US and abroad. She is currently represented by Huff Harrington Fine Art, (Atlanta, GA), JF Gallery (West Palm Beach. FL), Anne Hunter Galleries (New York/Alys Beach, FL), SEA Contemporary (Rosemary Beach, FL), and Art Design Consultants (Cincinnatti, OH). Learn more about the artist at www.raebroyles.com.
