6/4/2014: North Charleston Mayor R. Keith Summey visited Pepperhill Elementary School to speak to students completing their 5th grade year. He offered the students words of wisdom and encouragement for the coming school year.

North Charleston receives grant to help fund senior center

5/29/2014: The Dorchester Road Senior Center will be located adjacent to North Charleston Fire Station 5 on land that will be donated to the City by Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission. A $350,000 grant from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor was awarded to help fund the construction of the City of North Charleston’s new senior center.

North Charleston City Gallery to Exhibit Works by Alvin Staley & DeWayne Sykes

5/29/2014: The North Charleston City Gallery will host concurrent solo exhibitions by Orangeburg, SC, artist, Alvin Staley, and local artist, DeWayne Sykes, throughout the month of June 2014. The artists will host a free public reception at the gallery on Thursday, June 5, from 5-7pm.

5/13/2014: The City of North Charleston was once again named a “Playful City USA” community by KaBOOM!, the national non-profit dedicated to play for America’s children. KaBOOM! created “Playful City USA” in 2007 to help local governments address the play deficit by ensuring children have the time and space they need to play.

Lowcountry's first youth entrepreneurship center to open

4/29/2014: North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey will officiate the official ribbon cutting and dedication of the Lowcountry’s first youth entrepreneurship center on May 1 at 4:00. The Youth Entrepreneurship & Volunteer Center will house Metanoia’s high school Civic Leaders program.

Thirteen Citizens in first graduating class of the Public Safety Academy

4/25/2014: The City of North Charleston had 13 citizens graduate from its initial offering of the Public Safety Academy. The graduation culminated 11 weeks of educational and informative classroom and field work participants completed.
