College of CharlestonWhile many American Universities these days are faced with the challenges of declining applications and enrollment, the opposite is true at The College of Charleston. Once considered a "hidden treasure", the school has been discovered both Nationally and Internationally. Application numbers are robust and the quality of the student considering and selecting the college has been on the rise as well. Today, the student body tops 11,000 making the college the third largest university in South Carolina. Students hail from 49 states and 57 foreign countries. This college's incoming freshmen average SAT score is the second highest among SC public institutions.

The College of Charleston's growing recognition has been aided by the high profile success of some of its athletic teams including last year's Men's Basketball Team which achieved the Nation's longest winning streak and then gave a scare to eventual national champion Arizona in the NCAA Tournament.

Since its founding, the College of Charleston's purpose has been to offer a first-rate Liberal Arts Education. This was as true for the students learning Latin and Greek in the 18 th Century as it is for those majoring in Biochemistry, Business Administration or Urban Studies today. Forty undergraduate degree programs are offered at the College of Charleston along with 14 graduate degrees at the University of Charleston, S.C.

As the concerns of society have changed, so have the college's course offerings. But the educational standards that have existed at the College of Charleston for more the 200 years - a challenging, individualized Liberal Arts curriculum - remain the same.

The CitadelThe Citadel is a state-assisted, comprehensive, Liberal Arts College within a Military environment. The college has two diverse, but equally important goals.

One is to graduate young people with alert minds and sound bodies who have been taught the high ideal of honor, integrity, loyalty and patriotism: who accept the responsibilities that accompany leadership; and who have sufficient professional knowledge to take their places in a competitive world.

The second is to serve the citizens of the Lowcountry and the State of South Carolina through its co-educational college of graduate and professional studies and a broad range of non-instructional activities and services.
