Our Chief

Chief Driggers began his career in law enforcement in 1975 when he joined the North Charleston Police Department as a police officer.  This was the beginning of an 11 year career with the Police Department where he held positions in Patrol, Special Operations Division, Detective, and S.W.A.T Team. In 1986, Chief Driggers joined the Charleston County Police Department. During his 20 year career with the Police Department which was later named the Charleston County Sheriff Office, Chief Driggers rose through the ranks and served in numerous command positions including Administrator of the Charleston County Detention Center before retiring as Assistant Sheriff responsible for overall budget and management of four (4) Chief Deputies with over 800 employees. In 2008, Chief Driggers joined the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy where he provided counseling services to victims of crimes, house fire, and to police officers and firefighters on the job.

In 2012, Chief Driggers was hired by Mayor Keith Summey to lead the City of North Charleston Police Department.  As the city’s top cop, Chief Driggers philosophy is that the office does not belong to him, but rather to the people he serves. He says he intends to take care of the men and women of the police department and they in turn will take care of the citizens the department serves. Chief Driggers’ biggest asset is his ability to listen.

Chief Driggers is a graduate of Trident Technical College in North Charleston and has studied Psychology at the College of Charleston. Throughout his law enforcement career Chief Driggers has completed numerous trainings to include Hostage Negotiation, Individual Crisis Intervention and Peer Support, Pastoral Crisis Intervention, S.W.A.T. Training, Training Instructor for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, Critical Incident Stress Management, and National Incident Management System. Chief Driggers is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, South Carolina Police Chiefs Association, Fraternal Order of Police, and International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.

In 2012, Chief Driggers was ordained a Deacon. He enjoys family, hunting, fishing, and reading.
