Summer Camp Registration

The City of North Charleston Recreation Department’s 2018 Summer Camp registration begins on Thursday, February 1, 2018.  Summer camp is for kids between the ages of 5-12 as of May 31, 2018.  We will have 19 camp sites this year.  Registration will take place at the following locations: Armory Park Community Center, Felix C. Davis Community Center at Park Circle, Felix Pinckney Community Center, Gethsemani Community Center, Jeanene Batten Community Center, Miner Crosby, North Charleston City Hall in the Rec Department, Northwoods Park Community Center, Perry Webb Community Center, and Thomas M. Evans Sr. Community Center.  You may also register online at recreation.northcharleston.org (A fee will apply/Northwoods Park will not be available for online registration).  Registration will end when camps are full.  Sites fill up quickly so register fast. Camp runs from June 14th until August 3rd from 7:30am to 5:30pm.  A late fee will be charged for campers that are picked up after 5:30pm.  The cost is $275.00 for city resident and $250.00 for each additional sibling.  The cost for non-residents is $400.00 and $375.00 for each additional sibling.  Rates are for entire summer camp and includes breakfast, lunch, and all activities and field trips.  To register, you must bring the camper’s birth certificate, a current South Carolina issued driver’s license or South Carolina issued identification card, and a current bill.  Parent or guardian must be present.  For more information, please call (843) 740-5807 or visit www.northcharleston.org

Youth Programs

Fishing Camp

Fishing Camp registration begins February 12, 2018.  Fishing camp is for children 10-15 years of age. Camp runs from June 25th until 29th from 7:30am to 4:00pm at Gary McJunkin Community Center at Collins Park.  The cost is $125.  Campers will have the opportunity to learn about fishing safety while becoming familiar with types of rods, reels, baits, and lures.  Campers will head to a different fishing site each day including freshwater and saltwater fishing.  Campers will need to pack a lunch, snack, and plenty of water each day.  There is a maximum of 12 campers so register quickly.  For more information, visit www.northcharleston.org or contact Kathy Kackley at (843) 740-5805.  


Community Center Afterschool Program

Afterschool Registration registration continues continue until all afterschool community center sites are filled to capacity.  The North Charleston afterschool program is designed to keep your child motivated and active afterschool while providing quality supervision and guidance.  We focus on academic enrichment and recreational activities designed to teach your child valuable leadership and life skills they can use in their everyday decision making processes.  Commitment, responsibility, socialization, creativity and physical activity are key components of the program which ensures that children are on track to become productive citizens of society.  All afterschool sites will have the supper program offered by the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Swim Lessons

Registration starts on May 1 for summer swim lessons at our city pools. The cost is $30 residents/$60 non-residents for 8-45 minute classes held over a 2 week period. The first session starts following the end of school on June 4.

Yearly Pool Pass

All current pool passes for open/lap swim expired on 12/31/2017. You can pick up a new yearly (individual/family) pool pass during the week at the Armory across the street from the Danny Jones pool.

Water Aerobics

Our popular year round water aerobics class continues on M/T/Th at 9:30am for the morning session and 6:00 pm for the evening session. The cost is $20 per month. If you have any questions feel free to stop by a class and talk to our instructor Catherine Dixon.

Youth Swim Team

Information about the City of North Charleston youth swim team can be found at www.watermocs.com. You can find information about fees, pool location, practice times, coaches, age(s), equipment needed, meet schedule and much more. The minimum age is 6 years old and kids must be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards freestyle and 25 yards backstroke to be considered for the team for safety and competitive reasons. Practice started in September but athletes can join throughout the year.

Adult Water Polo

North Charleston will be offering Water Polo at the Danny Jones pool for the first time! Adults practice Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:15pm – 8:15pm and Saturdays 10am – 12pm. The cost is $30 per month. For more information you can contact Bora Yatagan. byatagan@northcharleston.org

Masters Swim Team

If you would like to join the team they practice M-F at 6:00 am at the Danny Jones pool. The cost is $35 per month and the team ranges in age from 18-70. www.palmettomasters.org

Youth Athletics

Spring Baseball and Softball Registration

Registration for our “Youth Baseball/Softball Program” will be extended through Febraury 10th, 2018.  The registration fee remains at $30.00 for North Charleston residents and $60.00 for non-residents.  As a convenience to our citizens, multiple registration sites throughout the City are available as well as online registration, including Accabee Community Center, Armory Park, Gethsemani Community Center, Jeanene Batten Community Center, Northwoods, Park Circle, River Oaks, Wescott Park and the Recreation Department at City Hall.  Youth ages 4 through 19 may participate this year.  In baseball, the age groups include T-Ball (4 & 5), Machine Pitch (6 – 8), Dixie Minor (9 & 10), Dixie Youth (11 & 12), Dixie Boys (13 & 14), Dixie Pre-Majors (15-16) and Dixie Majors (17-19).  Softball age groups include Coach Pitch (6 – 8), Dixie Angels (9 & 10), Dixie Ponytails (11 & 12), and Dixie Belles (13 – 15). 


Youth Basketball games will continue to be played Danny Jones, Northwoods Park, River Oaks, Ferndale, North Charleston High School, Northwoods Middle School, and Palmetto Scholar Academy through the month of February.   All-Star teams will be picked in February for ages 9 – 14.  Tournament sites will be given out and all the boys and girls teams will begin play at the end of February.  The 7 – 8 years old coed teams will be playing a city wide post season tournament when their regular season ends.

Middle School Athletics


Our Middle School Basketball games will continue to be played at Northwoods Middle School, Ferndale Gym, Military Magnet and Zucker Middle School through the month of February. The teams will be playing a post season tournament when their regular season ends.



Registration for our Middle School Baseball and Softball program started on February 1st and will run through February 28th, 2018. Registrations are being taken at the middle school that the child attends.

Adult Sports


The winter season for Co-Ed Adult Kickball will begin play at Ingevity-Kapstone.   Kickball February 14 and 15, Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 6:30pm. To join the next league in the spring, please visit our registration site at www.charlestonssc.com.

Flag Football

The winter Adult Co-Ed Flag Football will begin play at River Oaks Complex. Games begin at 6:30pm each Monday night beginning February 12.  Come check out Monday Night Football in North Charleston!

Co-Ed Softball

The winter season for Adult Co-Ed Softball will begin play on Sunday, February 11. Games begin at 10am each Sunday morning and are played at Lent's Field.

Adult Water Polo

Adult Tennis

The North Charleston Recreation Department has a very active Adult Tennis Program. Our team tennis program offers a variety of levels of competition and is open to men and women. Matches are played against teams across the Greater Charleston area.

Tennis Clinics/Lessons

The North Charleston Recreation Department offers Tennis Lessons and Clinics at the Collins Park Tennis Center on the Collins Park Complex (4115 Fellowship Road off Dorchester Road). Fees vary depending on type of lesson or clinic (group or private), Lesson Packages are available.  Lessons are available for Adults and Children. Disc Golf

Disc Golf is played on the outer 8 islands around Park Circle Monday – Sunday from dusk to dawn, continuously.  Tuesday night doubles are played beginning at 6pm.  Registration takes place at the #1 tee box at 5:00 pm.  For more information on Disc Golf, call (843) 740-5801 or (843) 745-1028.

Fly Dog Fitness

The North Charleston Recreation Department and "Fly Dog Fitness" have joined together to offer Adult Fitness programs in collaborative effort to make "North Charleston More Physically Fit"!  Together we are offering the most unique, creative and exciting workouts in the area.  Whether you consider yourself to be in good shape or can't remember the last time you did more physical activity required at work, we can cater to your fitness level.

We are offering you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself, raise your self-esteem, and increase your social value and influence...all while getting an invigorating workout.

Classes take place for the majority on the outside; utilizing some of North Charleston's most beautiful green spaces at Park Circle, Danny Jones Complex and Riverfront Park. Morning classes meet on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 5:30am - 6:30am; Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6am - 7am.  Evening class meets Tuesdays from 6pm - 7pm.  All levels are welcome!   For more information, visit Fly Dog Fitness on the web at www.flydogfitness.com

Senior Programs

AARP Tax Services

AARP will offer income tax services on Monday and Wednesdays, February 5 – April 11. This service is offered for seniors at no cost.  Time is 9am – 2pm.

Pickleball 101

All Seniors are invited to come out and play the new and exciting game of PICKLEBALL, Tuesdays, Thursday and Sundays at 7pm at the Danny Jones Complex.

3 on 3 Basketball

Bring your game, bring your team and join us as we build our 3 on 3 basketball league. Individuals and teams are encouraged to register and participate.  Join us at Northwoods Gym, 8348 Greenridge Rd., Tuesday, 10:30am-12:30pm and/or Danny Jones Gym, 1455 Monitor St., Thursday, 10am-12pm

Thomas Evans CC Seniors

Chair Exercise
Chair Exercise is held each Friday at 10am.  All seniors are invited to come take part in this low impact exercise program.

Men's Coffee Gathering
Calling all Senior Men!  Join us each Wednesday morning beginning at 10am for coffee and fellowship.

Belly Dancing

Belly Dancing continues on Thursdays at 7pm, at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.   This class is designed for all ages including seniors.

"Senior Sneakers"

Join us as we "Walk the Circle" at our leisure!  Log your laps inside the community center at the receptionist desk and become eligible for Incentive Prizes for walking milestones.  Registration is required for this FREE program.  Men and women 50+ years of age are eligible to take part.  registration is continuous!

Senior Water Aerobics

Registration for Senior Water Aerobics .  Registrations are accepted at Armory Park or Park Circle. The cost is $20 a month.

Self Defense

A Self-Defense class is now being held at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle each Thursday afternoon beginning at 5:30 p.m.  For more information, contact Belinda swindler at (843) 745-1028.

ZUMBA Classes at Park Circle

Kelli offers a Tuesday and Thursday evening class at 5:30 pm-6:30 pm.  Cost is $5 per class.  For more information, call Belinda Swindler at (843) 745-1028.

ZUMBA Gold at Thomas M. Evans, Sr. Community Center

This class is designed for Seniors and is held on Tuesday mornings.  For more information call, (843) 760-4289.

Senior Line Dancing (class registration is continuous)

Each Monday morning at Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 9:30 am - 11:00 am.  Classes in December will be held at Armory Park due to Christmas Festivities at Park Circle.


This very low impact senior exercise class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

"JOY” Table Tennis

Monday and Wednesday, 9:30am-11:30am – Armory Park

"Joy Bocce"

Tuesday and Thursday, 10am-noon – Armory Park

"Joy Tappers" Basic Tap Lessons

 The JOY Tappers meet on Wednesdays at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.

Annual Events


Pitch, Hit and Run

This program allows young athletes to showcase their individual skills in pitching, hitting and running. Local competition is tentatively schedule during April. All around winners will advance to a sectional competition. Participants must play in local league.
