Farmer's Market

The North Charleston Farmer's Market is open each Thursday from 12pm -7pm at Park Circle.  Come visit and take advantage of great prices on local produce as well as crafts and other homemade items.

Fall Sports Registration

2015 Fall Sports Parents Letter

Fall Registration has been extended to August 15.  Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Cheerleading, Tackle & Flag Football are being offered during the Fall.  New this year is Flag Football for ages 7-17.

Programs

Activity and Play Days

Activity and play days will be Monday August 10 to Friday August 14 held at Northwoods Park, Persephone Moultrie, Highland Terrace, Russelldale, Ferndale, Whipper Barony, Felix Pinckney, Gethsemani, Murray Hill, and Miner Crosby. Sites will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m. The cost of registration is $7 Resident / $12 Non-Resident per child each day.  Payment must be in the form of a money order. Participants must bring ready to eat lunch each day.  Sites are accepting registrations until sites are full. Late fees apply in reference to late pick-up.

Afterschool Program

Afterschool Program for the 2015 – 2016 school year will begin Monday August 17th, spaces are limited so please register onsite the first day!

We are pleased to announce that we are adding Charleston Farms to the program giving us a total of 13 sites hosting the afterschool program. Northwoods Park, Raymond Buck Miller, Persephone Moultrie, Highland Terrace, Charleston Farms, Felix Pinckney, Ferndale, Whipper Barony, Gethsemani, Perry Webb, Murray Hill, and Miner Crosby will host the afterschool program!

Aquatics

High School Swimming

The high school swim teams kick off the new season the first week of August.  The Danny Jones pool will once again be the main training facility for all the athletes on Academic Magnet and Stall.

Pool Facilities

With all the kids headed back to school soon, August 14th will be the last weekday the pools at Collins Park, Felix Pinckney, and Northwoods will be open.  Starting August 15th through Labor Day those pools will only be open on the weekends.  The Danny Jones pool will continue to be open during the week for your enjoyment.

North Charleston Swim Team

Starting in September we will be offering a USA Swimming team for our residents with the focus on children 8-12 years old.  Children should have basic swimming knowledge and be interested in going to 1 swim meet a month.  Practices will be offered at the Danny Jones pool during the week after school.  The cost is $190 for the entire year (10 months).  This includes the $85 USA/SC Swimming fee.  For more information please contact Doug Fetchen at dfetchen@northcharleston.org

Fall Sports Registration

Football, Cheerleading and Volleyball for Girls registrations are being accepted August 17-31 in the following Middle Schools:

Morningside Middle
Northwoods Middle
Military Magnet
Zucker Middle School
Palmetto Scholar Academy (Volleyball Only)

Athletes must register at the school they attend.  Registration Fee is 30.00

Adult Sports

Adult Kickball

The Adult Kickball continues the summer season in at MeadWestvaco Kapstone Park. Games are played on Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 6:40pm.

Adult Co-Ed Flag Football

The Adult Co-Ed Flag Football continues the summer season and is in action each Monday night at Doc Hursey Field or Pepperhill Park.  Games begin at 6:30pm on the football field.

Adult Softball

Adult Co-Ed Softball summer season is underway each Sunday beginning at 10:00am at Lent's Field on the Danny Jones Complex.

Men's Senior Softball

The North Charleston Recreation Department is offering Men's Senior Softball in the Fall.  Men must be 50+ years of age.  Games will begin August 17 and will be played Monday-Wednesday evenings at MeadWestvaco-Kapstone Park.  For more information, contact Jim Butler at 843-557-8092 or Cindy Dambaugh at 843-740-5801.

Adult Tennis

The North Charleston Recreation Department has a very active Adult Tennis Program. Our team tennis program offers a variety of levels of competition and is open to men and women. Matches are played against teams across the Greater Charleston area.

Tennis Clinics/Lessons

The North Charleston Recreation Department offers Tennis Lessons and Clinics at the Collins Park Tennis Center on the Collins Park Complex (4115 Fellowship Road off Dorchester Road). Fees vary depending on type of lesson or clinic (group or private), Lesson Packages are available.  Lessons are available for Adults and Children. Disc Golf

Disc Golf is played on the outer 8 islands around Park Circle Monday – Sunday from dusk to dawn, continuously.  Tuesday night doubles are played beginning at 6:00 pm.  Registration takes place at the #1 tee box at 5:00 pm.  For more information on Disc Golf, call (843) 740-5801 or (843) 745-1028.

Fly Dog Fitness

The North Charleston Recreation Department and "Fly Dog Fitness" have joined together to offer Adult Fitness programs in collaborative effort to make "North Charleston More Physically Fit"!  Together we are offering the most unique, creative and exciting workouts in the area.  Whether you consider yourself to be in good shape or can't remember the last time you did more physical activity required at work, we can cater to your fitness level.

We are offering you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself, raise your self-esteem, and increase your social value and influence...all while getting an invigorating workout.

Classes take place for the majority on the outside; utilizing some of North Charleston's most beautiful green spaces at Park Circle, Danny Jones Complex and Riverfront Park. Morning classes meet on M,W,F (3 days a week, 12 sessions) 6:00 am - 7:00 am.  Evening classes meet Mon.-Thurs. (4 days a week, 16 sessions) 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  In addition to our 6am and 6pm sessions, we offer Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am and 5 pm classes.  Once you sign up for one time slot, you may attend as many different sessions in a 4 week camp as you like!  For more information, call Cindy Dambaugh at (843) 740-5801 or e-mail cdambaugh@northcharleston.org.  Visit Fly Dog Fitness on the web at www.flydogfitness.com

IT'S NEW

Pickleball 101

All Seniors are invited to come out and play the new and exciting game of PICKLEBALL, Wednesday evenings at 7pm at the Danny Jones Complex.

"Senior Sneakers"

Join us as we "Walk the Circle" at our leisure!  Log your laps inside the community center at the receptionist desk and become eligible for Incentive Prizes for walking milestones.  Registration is required for this FREE program.  Men and women 50+ years of age are eligible to take part.  registration is continuous!

Senior Water Aerobics

Registration for Senior Water Aerobics .  Registrations are accepted at Armory Park or Park Circle. The cost is $20 a month.

Self Defense

A Self-Defense class is now being held at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle each Thursday afternoon beginning at 5:30 p.m.  For more information, contact Belinda swindler at (843) 745-1028.

ZUMBA Senteo

Zumba Senteo meets each Monday from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.

ZUMBA Classes at Park Circle

Kelli offers a Tuesday and Thursday evening class at 5:30 pm-6:30 pm.  Cost is $5 per class.  For more information, call Belinda Swindler at (843) 745-1028.

ZUMBA Gold at Thomas M. Evans, Sr. Communtiy Center

This class is designed for Seniors and is held on Tuesday mornings.  For more information call, 760-4289.

Senior Line Dancing (class registration is continuous)

Each Monday morning at Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 9:30 am - 11:00 am.  Classes in December will be held at Armory Park due to Christmas Festivities at Park Circle.

Seniorcize

This very low impact senior exercise class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle.  Class time is 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

"JOY” Table Tennis

Monday and Wednesday, 9:30am-11:30am – Armory Park

"Joy Bocce"

Tuesday and Thursday, 10am-noon – Armory Park

"Joy Tappers" Basic Tap Lessons

 The JOY Tappers meet on Wednesdays at the Felix C. Davis Community Center on Park Circle from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.

Youth

Pitch, Hit and Run

This program allows young athletes to showcase their individual skills in pitching, hitting and running. Local competition is tentatively schedule during April. All around winners will advance to a sectional competition. Participants must play in local league.
