Main Event Stage Descriptions

PAC StageEnjoy a mesmerizing array of performances in dance, music, and theater for general audiences.

250National and local cultural groups will entertain with vibrant performances in both dance and music. Heritages represented include African, Bangladeshi, Caribbean, Hispanic, Filipino, Indian, Japanese, Middle Eastern, and more!

BandStage1Listen to some great bands perform a variety of music genres, such as Americana, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Reggae, and Rock. The Festival’s food courtyard offers a variety of menu items, along with tables, chairs, and umbrellas that provide a wonderful outdoor setting to enjoy the music with your meal.

Exhibit Hall StageLook for magicians, storytellers, puppet shows, music for kids, and variety acts like daring jugglers that will inspire, amuse, and amaze the young and young at heart.

Other Main Event Activities & Attractions

MainEventAttraction_OpProcessionalThe Opening Processional has kicked off the Arts Festival’s Main Event festivities at the Convention Center Complex for over a decade. African drummers and dancers, groups dressed in brightly colored outfits and costumes, volunteers carrying giant puppets, banners and other crafted props, jugglers, dance troupes, theatre groups, and more parade around the complex toward the North Charleston Performing Arts Center (PAC). Once the Processional enters the PAC Auditorium, the celebration continues with a Performance Spotlight, featuring performances by a number of community groups. The processional begins at 9:45am on Saturday, May 3, with community group performance spotlights from 10:00-11:30am.

AFMainEventRoving entertainers, from mimes to magicians, can be found throughout the Complex interacting with Main Event patrons of all ages.

Art Festival 2012 5_5 232 - CopyOver 50 fine artists, fine crafters, artisans, and art and craft guilds will have items on display and available for sale. Save your Mother’s Day shopping for this weekend and find the perfect gift! The selection is vast and full of variety; costs vary by item and vendor.

VillageAntiques2This show and sale features numerous vendors offering home decor, fine antiques, furniture, collectibles, antique guns, art, jewelry, rugs, crafts, vintage toys & games, silver, pottery, china, salvage items, outdoor decor, vintage instruments, and more. Operating hours are 10:00am-5:00pm each day.

MainEventAttraction_Gem-ShowThe Lowcountry Gem & Mineral Society’s annual show and sale, Art by Nature, features numerous vendors offering a variety of beads, gemstones, gemstone jewelry, custom-designed jewelry, and collector minerals & fossils. Other offerings include Lapidary demonstrations and a fossil dig. Operating hours are 10:00am-5:00pm each day.

Box CityThe Main Event offers many opportunities for children to be creative! Creation Station projects, led by local artists, include painting, drawing, jewelry making, origami, sweet grass basket weaving, and more. Box City, facilitated by area professionals and city planners, is a favorite for children to test out their architectural dreams while building a small city.

MainEventAttraction_FoodBoothThe Festival’s food courtyard, located in the outdoor area between the North Charleston Coliseum and the Charleston Area Convention Center, provides patrons a variety of delicious menu selections to enjoy. Musical entertainment by bands performing on the Courtyard Stage creates a wonderful setting for having lunch or a snack. Tables, chairs, and umbrellas provided; costs vary by item and vendor.
