The Public Works Department provides planning, design, management, operations, construction, maintenance and repair of public works systems and programs such as streets, drainage, parks, playgrounds, public buildings and all city-owned vehicles; provides garbage and trash collection services and related public works activities to provide and promote the general health, safety and comfort of the community and its citizens.

The department is comprised of three line divisions, Maintenance, Sanitation and Equipment Maintenance and has an administrative and engineering support staff. A brief description of areas of responsibility follows. You can reach Public Works between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday by calling (843) 745-1026. After 5:00 PM and during weekends and Holidays you can report emergency problems by calling (843) 554-5700. Please call if you have any specific questions or wish to report a related maintenance problem.

In addition to daily tasks, Public Works plays a key role in support of Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Recovery.

The Public Works Department is located on Aragon Avenue.
