Facilities & Rentals
The North Charleston Cultural and Civic Center Complex is located on the former Charleston Naval Base, just off N. Hobson Ave., approximately two blocks from the McMillan Ave. entrance. Facilities within the Complex may be rented for use by individuals, guilds, civic groups, public, private, or governmental agencies. Auditorium
The Complex offers a 986-seat theater-style auditorium for city sponsored, public, and private events such as concerts, theater productions, or large group meetings. The auditorium features a performance stage with house and stage lighting, in-house sound equipment, dressing rooms, and a large foyer with ticket desk and sufficient room for registration tables or concessions.
Conference/Meeting Rooms & Reception Hall
Located on the second floor of the Civic Center are the offices of the Cultural Arts Department, a conference room, small meeting rooms, and a Reception Hall with the capacity to hold approximately 200 people. There is handicap access to the first floor and Auditorium Stage; an elevator lift goes to the second floor.
Classrooms & Studios
The Rhodes Arts Center is a three-story brick building which has received renovations to one-half of the first floor, thereby allowing the Cultural Arts Department to expand and offer on-going classes and workshops in visual arts, photography, crafts, music, dance, theater and more. Individual rooms provide space for classes in all art disciplines and for all ages. These will be offered based on public request. Proposals from potential teachers will be considered throughout the year. Information will be featured in the Quarterly Program Guide published by the Cultural Arts Department listing class schedules on an ongoing basis.
Rehearsal Space & Meeting Rooms
The Production Hall is a one-story concrete building currently used by cultural and community groups for rehearsal space and meeting rooms.
Gymnasium
The Civic Center also has a full gymnasium and weightroom located on the first floor. The Gym is run by the North Charleston Recreation Department and offers scheduled hours of usage for recreational teams, schools, and the public. Operating hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30AM-8:00PM, Friday, 8:30-5:00PM, Saturday, 9:00AM-1:00PM. Gym closed on Sundays. Riverfront Park
Set on the banks of the beautiful Cooper River, Riverfront Park has been built near the historic homes once occupied by the Naval Base Admiral and officers, surrounded by graceful old oak trees and peaceful river vistas. Bordered by Noisette Creek, the park boasts a magnificent contemporary Performance Pavilion and Grand Lawn. The national Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition is installed there. Future plans include the Shipyard Memorial and Boardwalk. The North Charleston Cultural Arts Department can answer any questions regarding rentals at Riverfront Park. Please call (843) 745-1087.

The Meeting Place
The North Charleston Cultural Arts Department is now responsible for the City-owned facility known as “The Meeting Place”. Located at 1077 East Montague Ave., the building is in close proximity to Park Circle and is in the heart of the revitalization efforts of the Olde North Charleston Business District.
Formerly a store-front business, the one story building features a carpeted open room, suitable for standing receptions or small group meetings. The storefront windows offer exhibition space for fine art, photography, and fine crafts. A glass display cabinet with countertop also offers space for small items. A wooden podium and a limited number of folding chairs and tables are available for use by small groups. There is a small sink and counter in the room and one restroom. Free parking is available along the newly renovated streetscape of East Montague Ave.
